If Riot MMO was a thing, it might slowly teeter into oblivion, but it isn't. Two major MMO's rule the market and the rest compete for scraps or rather wait for scraps to go to them. Ashes of Creation is a pvp-mmo, so its pretty much dead in the water.

FFXIV isn't dying anytime soon,unless there's a scandal or something really really bad happens. If the next two expansions are similarly divisive? I don't think it will affect their bottom line either, because of how much of a fanbase they have and because there's no other place to go.

Complaining has a small chance of improving this game in the long run, so I complain and keep my sub. I complain because I want the game to be better than it is.

While I don't feel XIV is at risk of dying, I think it will shrink in population over time if they don't correct what they have done in DT.

They have enjoyed a population explosion from the great press ShB and EW brought them, only to have it waste away if they get more lukewarm reviews for storylines like DT.

Gameplay aside, it was the MSQs of those expansions that captured the most interest. And the offering here is -- not as good.

Alright let's see:

ShB: introduced the Crystarium crafter/gatherer quests. Introduced bisexual-color gemstones. IDK what people did before SHB with FATEs and whatnot. Introduced Bozja. While it's a similar timed open field instance like Eureka, it has different mechanics, different story, and its own raids. Begin adding Trusts and Duty Support. I believe they also begun going back to older content to rework it in some cases. Introduced New Game+. Introduced Ishgardian Restoration and FETEs. Trial Synthesis feature was added. Dungeon Explorer Mode was added.

EW: Introduced Island Sanctuary. Reworked the earlier MSQ to be more newbie friendly. Reworked housing lottery. Adventurer Plates. Reworked PvP entirely and it's more popular now than it was before. Added 3 whole Criterion Dungeons (which, for the record, 1 of these is like 12 dungeon paths and boss variants). Added new stuff to Golden Saucer. Fall Guys collab event was pretty in-depth, speaking of Gold Saucer. Compatibility with Xbox. Added a new deep dungeon which, while it uses the same style as POTD and HOH, is still definitely its own beast as well. Added extra glam plates and more glam dresser slots.

Dawntrail: Continue expanding all of the above features, and add in some more stuff as well. Already confirmed more criterion, and another eureka/bozja-like instance. Also adding in a whole new Beastmaster job, which I think/hope will also come with a pokemon-like pvp fight mechanic where two Beastmasters pit their pets against each other.


Yeah... I think you're wrong OP. I think the devs are adding in new content and new features all the time. All while you continue having a backlog of older content still to do.
You're just not engaging with it. Which is fine, maybe the new stuff isn't for you or the QOL features are not noticeable for you since you don't need any of it, and it's okay to say that. But in that case I'd say be more constructive with "this is what I want to see/do", and not come with this "omg game is dead, no new features", which is hyperbole and just plain false.

I think FFXIV will be fine considering what we know we're going to be getting in future patch content + with current combat gameplay being way better than EW's by a huge margin. Story might have been meh, but imo gameplay > story in an MMO.

IDK what people did before SHB with FATEs and whatnot.

StB introduced the Forlorn Maidens and in both HW and StB FATE's, there were some that dropped minions, barding, triple triad cards, housing items, etc.

XIV has been through worse and survived, it takes more than a mediocre expansion to kill an MMO. The real question is if it can survive another round of Hiroi's awful writing and Kate's awful localization.

But also take another step back and wonder if you actually like the game, especially people telling the game has been shit for 6-7 years, why have you been playing all this time then ?

100% this is why every time we go down this road, I always point to player data.

People can post all the Dawntrail and Wul Lamat hate threads. People can review bomb. People can say what they wanna say, however they wanna say it.

At the end of the day, the direction of this game is dictated by player data.

And if the player data does not corroborate all the bellyaching... well, I'm so sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Games formulaic and most of its best content comes out around X.2+
Kinda get used to it, CBU3 is pretty lazy with the formula and constantly make dumb decisions. 90-100 job actions and no week early crafted sets for savage come to mind. (Seriously it was such a good qol change.)

Take a break and play a different MMO, this game just isn't made for everyone. For example I literally play healer in all other MMOs but the healers in this game since ShB are so bad and boring I haven't even done an extreme with them in 5 years, you kinda have to accept these issues if you wanna play the game.
