I haven't played DT yet. But didn't SB have a strong female leader also? I don't recall anyone making star wars comparison or crying 'woke.'
People complained about Lyse a lot. However, Lyse wasn't attachted to your hip like Wuk is, nor were you actually forced to like her. She also failed a lot, unlike Wuk and even at the end she wasn't beloved by her people, merely accepted, unlike Wuk who was beloved by not just her people but an entire other nation of people as well.

To the point of her LITERALLY saving everyone in the last Trial.
Problem is they already did it with Dawntrail none of the world events that allegedly affected Etheirys in its entirety affected Tural; The events of EW I feel everyone could have just moved to Tural no need to go to the moon as Tural was never affected. On one hand I also appreciate this because I already want to move on and get away from the lingering bad taste of the DT MSQ. I'm just here hoping that the savage raids and new group content coming is good from both a game play perspective and story perspective since the side stories are always written by different people than the MSQ and thus actually have a chance to not be total slop.
But on the other hand it will feel very weird if they just dump such a vastly different society as Alexandria onto the Source and then do absolutely nothing with it and its presence has zero repercussions. Due to the way they rarely let the world change much, I feel like they're going to have the Alexandrians continue on doing the same horribly unethical soul commodity stuff they've always been doing in their own literal bubble and the rest of Etheirys will just shrug and go, "Huh. Anyway..."
Garlean issue no problem go to Tural no Garleans there
Allagan no issue never been to Tural apparently
Calamity issue fall of Dalamud no issue go to Tural
Void related issue go to Tural cause even if they have a huge Aether rich location apparently they cannot get to it.
Tural is so far removed from the current lore that it feels like it dropped out of thin air after the void incursion post EW
Then I am not even talking about plot points I found was weird and award to say the least
- you meet someone from Sharlyan and he does not know who you are, yet he would've been part of the community when you returned end of EW
- you go to the mamool-ja home yet don't see the blue mages so the guy teaching blue magic is a liar
- No merchant or anyone visited Tural for 20 years it seems cause they know nothing of the outside world
- Galuf in that 20 years also aged like I don't know what went from young man to old man in 20 years (are we to really believe they aged that much in 20 years)?
- Wuk Lamat allegedly grew up in Tural but no next to nothing of the people
- you as WoL/WoD are so side-lined even events where you could step in and change course of events you don't you just let stuff happen making me rather think of my own character as being an evil person with no wish to do anything unless he is begged
- you are a literal god killer yet you cannot even defeat a measly king I mean seriously am I to believe that the sparring much would leave me out of breath?
- People seem amazed about your achievements when you get a chance to mention them but basically gloss over saying okay that is cool then focus goes back to wuk lamat
just a quick fyi they do have 1 competitor currently and that is the one referred to here Guild Wars 2 which has slowly but surely been making it's way back from their previous flop of the ice brood saga; Janthir wilds being released in a week for instance introduces player housing which is shared account wide - saying ffxiv has no competitor is bad faith when GW2 and FFXIV are literally constantly compared they even now recently people compared QoL being added to JW against DT then I am not even talking about the fact that story has been compared near constantly.
The disliked character is too prominent in a badly written story. I initially thought she was almost as bad as Lyse, but by the first town (and Tobli) I was screaming in my head as I saw I was in a game written for 4 year olds. It got worse.
As adults or at least people over 16, SE's player base really doesn't need 4 year old moral lessons on 'sharing is caring', and 'positivity can beat everything'.
Take Sesame Street out of here.

Adding to the comparison of Wuk Lamat and Lyse, it all comes down to worse writing.
It's actually something that a lot of (mostly western) media is getting wrong again and again lately in an attempt to write "strong" female characters, but getting the pendulum way too much in the other extreme and just writing them badly. Now a lot of writers feel like their female protagonist has to be flawless...and flawless characters are either boring, annoying or frustrating.
Lyse bothered a lot of people because of her personality and how different she was from the Yda we knew, and because we didn't think she had a place in that fight (which is actually part of the story, and she gets things wrong and learns from this). She had flaws, she got things wrong, and she learns, and we can see her behaving differently at the end of the story. There was a character arc there, and there was inner conflict.
Wuk Lamat doesn't get anything wrong. The "flaws" she has at the beginning is trying to appear stronger than she is, and feeling inferior to her brothers, which are both things she tells us directly how she feels, and then tells us she got over it, but we never see it being an actual problem, or an "aha" moment where she realizes through actions that she doesn't have to feel this way. She is the same character from beginning to end, except now we get less of the repeat sea sickness joke, and she talks more about loving the people because that's her thing that her brothers don't have, I guess.
These "flaws" never cause her any actual problems, and she never suffers for it. They never steer the story in a different direction, and she never makes any bad decisions based on those beliefs. Her "flaw" is not realizing how perfect and right she already is.
Doesn't help that she is there all the time constantly, and everyone around her is only there to agree with her, worry about her, or say how much they like her to the point they don't even have a personality anymore.

As the author of the original post, I'll repeat my position of dt damaging the brand.
Now, that damage doesn't have to be unilateral, it just has to be noticeable and relevant to the time.
Some people may not like Stormblood and may say so here, but that won't really affect players decisions to carry on subscribing for the next 7.xx patches.
Any dt damage is of course highly relevant, as it's immediate - affecting present and future.
That damage doesn't have to be perfectly mirrored in subscription losses. Once again, it just has to be noticeable and in today's globe spanning multi-forums environment that is enough.
So a generalised repeat of the original question: What do we think SE's behaviour will be at their next ffxiv live letter?
O no Wuk Lamat eng VA has been quite vocal in their eyes you are a racist if you do not like the upbeat song that plays after committing a genocide and the scene showing the aftermath I mean Solution 9 lost their queen and Living Memory is destroyed but let's play a pop song and ruin the experience I mean tone deaf much it is like them playing LaHee during the final walk in Endwalker; a transphobe if you do not like Wuk lamat a bigot if you feel the story is bad and a Narcissist because you want to actually have your character feature in a story instead of being some pet with no voice being paraded around.
so no they are not quiet on the contrary they are trying to make it into a discrimination issue instead of leaving it at expac is disliked due to writing.
