The final trial was a result of her casting aside her memories of Sphene, purging herself of her humane aspects, as it were.

Which kind of makes sense from where she's standing. She was rather disturbed by the attack on Tullyolal (sp) in a blink and you'll miss it moment. And this was with Zoraal Ja keeping casualties to a minimum.

Unless Preservation intended for Sphene to delete herself and wipe out all life in a paper clip paradox, then they made a coding error. The Eternal Queen deleting her own memories has to be the biggest possible failure of "preservation" imaginable.

As soon as you get self-preservation coming into play instrumental convergence happens. The paperclip maximizer is a very interesting thought to head-canon, but I think its horrors are beyond the current writing team. The Omicron had it, humanity has it in buckets too over our planet. And my fear for a long time is that we will see our creation getting there too in 50 to a hundred years.

What annoys me most, the opening story was so dislikable that it needs a meteor to wipe out 7.0 and restart at 8. Koana Or Erenville Reborn. Erenville I think grew on me over time.
