Dragoons like myself should be able to have a jumping bonus compared to the other jobs. It would only make sense, it's lore! But really, I would love to see how they can even out jumping with lalafell jumps compared to roe jumps..

I think one of the biggest problems with jumping in the world of FFXIV would be setting the base height of the jump mechanics ,will some races jump higher?, would this make some races less appealing for certain content? would mobs be able to jump as well? All the little thing that no one is looking at have to be addressed and having the dev team spend time working on this isn't even close to a priority imho, let them work on content, that's what everyone can agree on.
EDIT: also after reading this thread a bit some say that jumping is coming, I have been over all the info I have and have not seen anything about jumping aside from YP talking about that Chocobo's won't fly or swim, if you have solid info please post, if not quit talking out your backside.Seen HereRPGSite: Last question… what core mechanics—if any—are being drawn from western MMO developers? Such as the option to do things like swimming and jumping?
Yoshida: I’m a very hardcore gamer, and one of the first things when I got onto FFXIV was that I wanted to add a jump feature. When I threw that out to the community, what surprised me was that a lot of players were against that idea. Their complaint was that you shouldn’t be able to jump in a FINAL FANTASY game! Just because it’s in all the other MMOs, does it fit with the image of FINAL FANTASY? For example, people didn’t want to see Lalafells jumping all around. Personally, I don’t like the fact that my character is bound to the ground, so I definitely want to add a jump feature.
mounts and jumping
well hello there ancient thread from the XIV dark ages...
i thought it was already fully known that 2.0 will have jumping.
we have jumping now, it was added a few patches ago: /happy
heres your jumping!
Which would fit contextual jumping just fine.I think many people are assuming that 'jump' will be like the lesser quality korean MMO clones with thier 3 x your height jump spam abilities...
Personally when I think of a FFXIV jump I think more like a real world hurdles jump or vaulting off the rails ...
I believe this would be a win for the '' immersion argument ''
Roes, elvann and highlanders would just step onto the rail
Miqo's and lowlanders much like the picture
Lalas would hoist and slide over
Something like that ^^

Pretty sure offline games try for immersion as well. I know Xenoblade was pretty immersive, despite the fact that it had jumping. How is not being able to jump a few feet more immersive than being able to?Those are offline games where jumping abuse doesn't hurt other people's immersion.
This is not an FPS, there is no place for bunny hopping or mario jumps. If they do add jumping it should be like in Final Fantasy 13 where you move close to something and it auto jumps you because that's where its appropriate to jump, (Or give you the option only at that point to use jump). This is a small detail that can help separate a serious mmo title from toony games like WoW.
Also since it's "toony", we gotta remove Dragoon. Because they can jump, and I don't want to play WoW guys I wanna play a serious MMO.
DRG's jump ability is an ability that fits the lore of the job.
As for the thread...I don't see the point in having a bunny hop feature for the sake of it. WoW has a jump feature but has content that requires you to utilize it in an intelligent matter. If we had content that required the feature to jump implemented I would be all for it. As long as it's not an useless animation that the devs don't have to waste their time on.
However if a jump feature were added, if added as an action command(requring something to prompt the player when to activate) that will give us the jump feature and restrict any bunny hoppers!
Just make all the races jump the same height, regardless of their size. Problem solved.I think one of the biggest problems with jumping in the world of FFXIV would be setting the base height of the jump mechanics ,will some races jump higher?, would this make some races less appealing for certain content? would mobs be able to jump as well? All the little thing that no one is looking at have to be addressed and having the dev team spend time working on this isn't even close to a priority imho, let them work on content, that's what everyone can agree on.
Wow, you've really been living under a rock, haven't you? It's been confirmed in several interviews, and Yoshi-P even showed a video of the prototype jumping animation during one of the Live Letters that they've done a couple times. So don't accuse other people of "talking out their ass" when really it's just you who's failed to keep up with the news.EDIT: also after reading this thread a bit some say that jumping is coming, I have been over all the info I have and have not seen anything about jumping aside from YP talking about that Chocobo's won't fly or swim, if you have solid info please post, if not quit talking out your backside.
It has nothing to do with WoW or Aion, it has to do with the fact that the game is 3D.
A 3D game needs to have some kind of jumping, either contextual jumping or a jump button, or else navigating the terrain will be super annoying (which it was in FFXI).
