If I remember correctly, there is actually a practical purpose for him to be there as well beside the cool factor. Even if we won, there is no thing stopping Endsinger to run away again and found a new nest. I think the battle dialogue in the normal mode version implied she tried that, and Zenos was "oh no, you don't get to run away this time".

They really need to use something else to explain us standing around and save down for the count for extremely powerful bosses like Endsinger, making the boss go untargetable and starting a cutscene is perfectly fine, we don't need to get stunned and forced on one knee every time a breeze blows slightly harder than usual
I bet they do it without thinking or realizing tbh. It's one of those elements that implies the current team no longer have the same level of attention to detail.
