Just gotta say, paint mage, not pictomancer. You have the magical power to manipulate paint, but not paint.
I can respect people saying its gameplay plays well though. Seems a lot like samurai in caster form though? Fill out three sets of combos.

Do you even have Pictomancer unlocked?... but no, it plays nothing like Samurai. The combo system does not interact with the motifs whatsoever, and both work quite differently from anything Samurai has.
And, ymmv depending on what you think good aesthetic is, but I thought the RGBW into CMYK combo system was very clever and I quite like the motifs (the actual paintings).
When I swapped from BLM to PCT I was put off from the aesthetic and, while I don't still love it, I've grown to appreciate it a lot, I think it's well executed.

It doesn't even slightly play or feel like Samurai, you are talking out of your ass.

You paint your motifs during combat and use them to execute specific actions. It has a 1-2-3 combo and another 1-2-3 that costs resources to use, neither of which interact with the motifs, but build their own gauge/resource. Its pretty fun, I levelled Viper first but I'm finding Picto to be a lot more enjoyable, even during the early levels, I can see it being my favorite caster by a wide margin. The actual way it plays is quite creative for this game and the animations are fun and set it apart from any other job.

PCT’s closest analogue is ShB SMN, not SAM (I literally have no idea how you thought of SAM unless you didn’t even unlock it you just saw 3 motifs and assumed they were 3 different endings to the paint combo which they aren’t

Pictomancer is the most fun job I have played after Stormblood summoner imo. I am not even that mad they ruined my job anymore.

I'm still mad but PCT is basically ShB SMN without all the jank (other than the hammer combo needing 2 buttons just to activate it) so I'm thrilled at the same time. It feels like home.
