Well before we even reach the final zone, the writers make it clear that Endless aren't actually alive; they are computer simulations based on a person's memories. In lots of sci-fi media it might have been more ambiguous about whether or not they were alive or not, but Dawntrail makes it painfully clear that these are simulations that have no souls. Even animals have souls in FF14; these computer programs do not.
And for me, that's what made the final zone awful. Because for an entire zone, I was forced to engage with ChatGTP as if it were an actual person, when actual lives were at stake and we should have been making better use of our time.
