I don't know why our role has anything to do with this. We're a silent character in every story; everyone around us is always doing the talking because our character is only capable of gesturing. Ardbert, Emet, etc., they all do the heavy lifting while we stand around and smile or scowl.

It matters, because in literally every other expansion, even if we weren't the focus, we were an active participant. Not a background character that even the camera doesn't bother to show.

Ok, you sound more upset that your character wasn't the center of every scene, so I'm not sure what this has to do with Wuk Lamat's voice actor. That sounds like a complaint for a writing or cinematograph threads. Are you saying losing the scene to someone else would have been fine if that someone else was gods gift to character performance? I can certainly understand never being able to get enough of, say, Emet, but there are other characters in the game.

I don't think we're going to see eye to eye on this.

In the past we were the ones to solve problems, in this expansion's story it fades to black after every dungeon and trial and we get
"Wow Wuk Lamat great work beating that beast by yourself"
    *WoL nods approvingly*
"Wow thanks guys I can't believe *I* did it all by myself by believing in myself"
It's like our accomplishments are a joke, we do nothing, even the in-universe fights are decided by Wuk Lamat solving the problem instead of us and then we just give moral support and nod silently.

I want to be the main character and do the cool stuff, I don't want to watch the writer's OC do all the cool stuff and then thank me for supporting them in a cutscene later.
This didn't happen in previous stories, we weren't the entire focus but we took charge and did things by ourselves to help out instead of just watching the real MC of the expansion do everything cool.
We didn't give moral support for Aymeric to beat Thordan, we just stopped him. We didn't cheer on the sidelines as Lyse worked through her self doubt in standing up to Zenos and the Empire, we just fought him ourselves.

I think the English voice is actually fine, and fits the same level and most characters, the biggest issue on Wuk is her actual character, how she's written, her voice lines etc, which is the FFXIV teams issue not the voice actor.
I really think people are overly critical on this aspect or they are combining the bad character design into the voice delivery and making it 1 thing without separating them. Some ppl like it, some hate it, and a large portion are just not that cared either way (much like everything).

However I do agree that you should be able to listen to whichever version you want, much like watching an anime where you can toggle English or Japanese voice options. (I never bothered to change mine so don't know if you can in game, I'll assume you cant based on your post)

Yea, I agree. Said much the same in the other thread about how bad she supposedly is, yet here we are with Barry White lalafells and a bizarre take on Olde English for half the scions I'm sure has the Anglo ancestors rolling. So much of everything else this time around is just so bad that Wuk's VA is taking the brunt of the criticism when there's nothing at all wrong with her voice. I actually found it quite pleasant.

But bad writing, bad direction, and a complete lack of identity for any of these far... west? characters... She's just in the wrong place, wrong time to start her VA career.

But then again, it's a big title under her belt. Maybe someone else who can actually write and direct will pick her up for another role. We'll see.

Did you play the same game? Compare any other character to Wuk's VA...

Again, I don't know what any of this has to do with the character's English voice-over. Like I said to someone else earlier, this sounds like a complaint for a writing or cinematography thread, as you also sound more specifically upset that your character wasn't the center of every scene.

For the record, I didn't get the same vibe from the MSQ as you. I do feel like my character is involved, even when it's simply by supporting another character so they can find their way and grow. Your character's role is and always has been that of a traveler and counselor to the people. That was your role before the Sundering, and it's what the WoL continues to do today. That doesn't require us to to constantly step into the spotlight and take center stage. It can simply be being present as a role model and advisor, something the WoL did frequently during this adventure. Our characters make the people around them better.

We just had a whole expansion (Endwalker) where our characters were saviors of the universe and attained legendary status around Eorzea. I am quite ok with them settling back into a more reserved role for a bit.

But, again, I don't know what any of this has to do with the quality of Wuk Lamat's voice acting, which I thought was fine.

Does Wuk Lamat pay my sub? No. I'm the main character. She can take a back seat and stop nagging me about peace with her piss poor voice.

It's not really a Wuk-specific issue. It's an issue of the entirety of the studio they got for all of the American-based actors.

Everyone sounds like they're from FF7 Rebirth in that they have anime voice acting, which is a far cry from the UK-based studio of classicially-theatre trained actors that we're used to.

Only Koana seems to have bucked this trend and sounds like he belongs in XIV. And Galool Ja Ja.
