I agree. Queued into one of the Dawntrail dungeons recently and it went well enough with it being everyone’s first run, up until the last boss. Without going into detail, our healer must have been brand new since they just kept dying to a pretty simple mechanic, which resulted in both of our DPS dying to a lack of survivability.
The tank was not particularly generous with Clemency/Intervention but would most certainly use it to drag on the fight while the rest of us just waited outside the arena, only to die with the boss nowhere near dead.
It’s not fun standing outside the arena just waiting 2/3 minutes for the tank to inevitably run out of mitigations and then die party stacks. I’d understand the attempt if it was in the last 20%, but otherwise please just reset it.
On a side note, I do appreciate how DT dungeons have had bosses more in line with Magus Sisters difficulty.
You also give people a chance to learn.
Personally, I have always asked my group (if I am confident) - Do you want me to solo, or do you want me to sacrifice myself? More oft than not they have been happier with the former since they can just view the mechanics from the outside and learn them.
None of the fights are intended to be soloed and you won't learn that by watching someone solo it. Role specific mechanics won't be learned, proper positioning won't be learned, the list goes on.
If I let the healers do their job, I'd be letting them cross the picket line. We can't have that.
It's happened to me 2xs while I was the solo tank. Once, the boss was almost dead and the healer died, I kept me and the DPS up with shake it off and the like and we defeated it, no problem. Second time though was the final boss in a EW dungeon. I kept messing up my cooldown rotation and I did end up wasting everyone's time and felt absolutely horrible about it. Before I tried to solo it though I asked if they wanted me to wipe and they said they didn't, however recognizing how bad I was I'll never do that again because yes it was a huge waste of time.

No, don't die in the fight instead.Because all you're doing is wasting people's time. You aren't making the dungeon go any faster by flexing your WAR or Tank Muscles by self-sustaining from 50% to 0%. Nobody cares. It's faster to wipe and start again if that many people are dead before 5% or even 10%.
When people do this, they detract from people's gameplay and might as well just have not played the fight at all - and I doubt SE will do anything about it considering they're dead set on making Tanks Invincible(unless you're DRK).
considering its "bad" for tanks to single pull... shouldnt it also be bad for a tank to lengthen the time it takes to do a dungeon by soloing bosses down?

Not solo. But i would continue if one of the DPS was still alive.
