Dexerto recently interviewed Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshida (via a translator) during a preview for the upcoming Dawntrail expansion. Yoshida was also the producer of Final Fantasy 16, so we asked whether Dawntrail would feature LGBTQ characters in the same vein as Dion.

“So, if the question is whether there is a character that is clearly expressed in that way as Dion,” Yoshida said, “Then the answer is no.”

“But this time around, the Warriors of Light will be meeting many different races, many different tribes, many different peoples. The theme of the expansion is “diversity”, so in that sense, you can expect many different encounters.”

Diversity includes sexuality and gender diversity! This is such a big slap in the face to everyone in the LGBTQIA+ Community, especially after Dion was released in FF16... We all thought... This expansion Dawntrial, will be the first expansion to feature a major LGBT NPC story character in the MSQ. But it's not. Does Square Enix even care about their LGBT players anymore?

And it's people like you that make it so hard for others to support those who are a part of the movement.

If they feel they can put a well written gay character in game then put one in but I'm tired of the forced diversity stuff just to fill a quota or checklist for a corporation to be like "see look we put diversity in our game now give us money". There is a difference of a well written gay character and putting a gay character in just for diversity because forced diversity tends to have poorly written characters to represent the communities there trying to represent and often become stereotyped.

I mean, yall had it front page when I woke up. Why did it need to reach 2 pages before now? And I find it hilarious each time this happens because ya'll get baited into being angry over it when the OP is intentionally trying to get people to rage. It should just be common sense at this point that threads of this nature aren't real, they're just bait. OP does not care if you yell at him/her, they'll be back tomorrow or the next week with more. Their entire point is to get a reaction and as long as they get it, they'll keep coming back.

Ignore them yourselves and maybe it'll actually stop and get the desired result you want. I'm just here trying to knock some sense into those taking this seriously.

I can't speak for everyone, but if the respondents are anything like me, the reply isn't necessarily for the OP but for this particular narrative and anyone who adopts the mindset. Because whether or not the post is sincere, this is an unfortunate reality that exists in our society.

Also. Some people are just bored. It's draught season in FFXIV right now. If the OP posted this the same week as DT launch, I assure you it would get buried very quickly.
