I think thats pretty cool. I wonder if new manafont will be similar to ffxi manafont where it knocks off mp restraints, or just resets everything. or both? Here's something i haven't seen be talking about and that is Manafont. If we take a look here, just after the new explosion, you can see several things happen. Being Manafont, it obviously is going to restore MP, however, if you also notice, you get 3 Umbral hearts AND you get the Paradox effect as well as resetting your AF timer. Does this imply you can do a full AF rotation again without having to enter UI (with the assumption it now restores all of your MP)?
Well the job changes were revealed, and every worry in my original post has been proven true, and then some. All thinking with regard to Thunder/Fire procs are now removed as well. The mana changes combined with Umbral Soul still being lv76 means early levels are extremely weird when running between pulls in dungeons or raids, not to mention lv70 Ultimates being extraordinarily jank. The job has been "streamlined", despite nobody asking for the kind of streamlining taken to BLM with a hatchet in these new 7.0 changes.
I STRONGLY hope these changes are themselves changed by the time the expac releases. This will severely harm the play experience of many players, despite Yoshi P saying he wants a "more fulfilling gameplay experience" for players in FFXIV. I for one am feeling less than fulfilled...
About time BLM got ruined, welcome brothers and sisters.
Disclaimer: I not a BLM mains, feel free to correct me if I m wrong.
A lot of BLM main seems to dissappointed with the change, but then again...
Consider BLM is Yoshida-san main, or so he claimed to be, Yoshida-san himself approved BLM's change, that pretty much reflected what Yoshida-san himself think about the FFXIV and it's players as a whole.
Dread is all that comes to mind now when considering leveling roulette. BLM was already a terrible leveling experience, but having to content with being unable to regen mana because of low HP enemies combined with slow cast times, I think it will become the definitive worst job to level. The move to destroy alternative playstyles at high level is also a mistake as it removes creativity from gameplay and pushes players more into memorization above all. All jobs should be moving in the opposite direction with more dynamic rotations.Well the job changes were revealed, and every worry in my original post has been proven true, and then some. Don't think he even plays his own game. Umbral Ice changes prior to level 76 are going to be something special.Disclaimer: I not a BLM mains, feel free to correct me if I m wrong.

Wonder if we can get people to stop putting Yoshi-P on a pedestal, because the only reason he saved FFXIV was by copying WoW. It's becoming evident that Yoshi doesn't know how to make an interesting RPG with these continuous bad decisions. Just look at FF16 as an example.Disclaimer: I not a BLM mains, feel free to correct me if I m wrong.

Healers: First time?As mentioned in the most recent Live Letter's proposed changes for Black Mage, Mana regeneration will be tied to ice spells in Umbral Ice, rather than passive regeneration. This is a catastrophically bad decision.
The issue is that Black Mage is in a unique position where high-end play does not replace standard rotations, but rather complements it by adding interesting and deep routes for rotations and skill expression through using Transpose to skip casting low-potency Ice spells, maximizing time spent casting Fire or high-potency spells. What this change would do is erase this kind of playstyle completely from the game, leaving BLMs with nothing but standard rotations for all content.
There are two possible fixes, and I sincerely hope the devs implement for 7.0 one of these if they are going down this route:
- Paradox in Umbral Ice gives 10k MP.
Either one of these would still allow a full Ice phase of Xeno/Thunder/Paradox filler, while still regenerating MP for going back into Fire phase. While not ideal, it would still be something to give happy BLM players something to strive for when looking to play the job at a higher level.
- Change the MP regeneration to any *GCD* in Umbral Ice restores MP.
This change also makes some content virtually unplayable. For example, TOP P6 has so much movement for BLM that mapping out nonstandard lines is basically mandatory unless you want to be casting Scathe like a goober 100 times and losing thousands of potency. Have the devs cleared high-end content on BLM? Do they know how much this change would impact?
This change does not help new players either (most will not even notice the change at all!), and will obliterate any and all interest experienced players have in the singular remaining job with actual complexity and depth. Who is this change for? Who benefits from removing fun, interesting rotations that aren't obligatory for newer players?
Please, for the love of life, do not implement this change.
But seriously, they said they want to concentrate on job identity, if that is the case... then why do they keep removing it unnecessarily?

What does Yoshida's opinion matter, really? He has bigger fish to dry than battle content and job design. There should be a team with people working specifically on this that should be tasked with delivering an engaging, fun experience.Disclaimer: I not a BLM mains, feel free to correct me if I m wrong.

To make an analogy with another game, it'd be like saying "Mark Merril plays these champions and he said they're great!" when they're in a horrible spot/poorly designed. People would laugh it off, what does the CPO's opinion matter on an area that isn't his responsibility or expertise?
Yoshida could say this new BLM will improve my life quality a thousandfold and it wouldn't change the fact the job is getting absolutely butchered.
