If you have a retainer leveled up in a combat class they can farm materials from mobs.

This. Using leveled+geared combat retainers on my various alts, I can get over 240 luncheon toad skins in an hour for 16 ventures.
Of course, even quicker is to just buy them off the marketboard, but I rarely do that, and I understand why people might not want to. But if you did some leves (for example) instead of hunting the skins yourself, the leves would probably easily pay for the skins.
Sometimes the round-about path is the fastest.
There's an alternative way to get some mob drops now. You can use bicolor gemstones at various vendors in different zones. You don't have to do the fates in the same zone. The bicolor gemstone bank increases from Shadowbringers fates onward. Then you can use the bicolor gemstones at any trader in any zone that accepts them.
*Sigh*
People really do struggle with reading don't they.
I have 1 character with 2 retainers, Thats all I have time for and 1 retainer is a miner the other is a combat class, as I said waiting an hour for 15 skins is still a joke, bi colour gems require farming of fates for a small amount of gems and for most fates you end up doing solo as the area is dead.
I mean great for you, you have an army of alts all with retainers lvl'd at that, Wish I had the same amount of free time you have, Great for you...
Doing content on my FFXIV? what?
You gotta pay $$ for some retainers buddy.
Yeah, not happening tbh, so the games pay to win is what you're saying, maybe i was an idiot supporting this game during 1.0, Y'know when I was a kid and had tons of free time, adulting sucks and I still love the game but the RNG these days is so awful especially when you have more than a game going on inrl.
There is absolutely no way that doing Endwalker fates solo takes 15 minutes.
If the areas are dead, the Fates are scaled down to accomodate the lower number of players. Just go to Ultima Thule so you don't get level sync, and you can take your level 90 Red Mage and just blitz through them. I was doing this with Dancer yesterday, and it only takes a few minutes per fate.
Bi-colour gems are the best way to go. They don't take 15 minutes, even on a tank it takes me about 5 minutes at the very most...maybe 2-3 on Ultima. Also combat class retainer? You said you have one: that's 15 skins in one shot. If not there is always the market board. It's not like those things are going to break the bank. Combine those methods (they are not mutually exclusive) and you'll have tons of skins in no time.I aint faming fates that don't drop skins (Yes I tried on the almasty fate nothing dropped) only to recieve 12 Bi colour gems) which can take up to 15 mins solo as you have to sync and your damage is reduced, trade off is still poor.
Tbh this game has SO much content RNG on skins/hides and slimes just isnt required if you're worried about timesink as everything else still takes tons of time to do and if you farm you still have to spend time farming so the time argument is nullified to me.
I have been playing this game on and off since 1.0, i enjoy farming but i also like to be rewarded for my farming, getting nothing for farming is a feel bad moment.

There's also no requirement to do Endwalker fates. Shadowbringers give the same currency and are much easier. There is absolutely no way that doing Endwalker fates solo takes 15 minutes.
