Unenthused About Dawntrail

The main draws seem to be be two lackluster classes (One of which is completely stupid), Female Hrothgar, which should have NOT been a major addition for an expansion literally two expansions later after you introduced the race in general, and an unnecessary graphics update in which entirely too much time has been wasted on. It just seems to be more of the same..

Another issue here is half of us are going to be talking about the story and half of us are going to be talking about mechanical/content changes.

The content has always been mostly the same formula just occasionally trying a new thing like they did with variant/criterion dungeons in EW, the Firmament/Ocean Fishing in ShB and Ultimates in SB, so I feel like it comes down to whether the aesthetics/story is hype enough and that's why my arguments are centered around it.

I'm absolutely certain that a majority of folks are hyped for Dawntrail which is great and well-deserved.

But I'm curious about folks who are actively going 'meh' about it's arrival.

Personally, I'm only looking forward to Female Hrothgar. But nothing particularly intriguing sticks out to me. I've yet to be properly hooked like I was for Endwalker. The trailer didn't excite me - the new jobs are alright but nothing eye catching - I don't really care about the graphics update - and I'm taking the promise of more content with a grain of salt.

For my fellow denizens of this forum who aren't terribly hyped or even moderately excited over the upcoming patch 7.0 - may I ask why?

I’m not too hyped for 7.0 proper. It will be a very formulaic retread of gameplay: 8 dungeons, 3 trials, and I think veterans might even be able to guess exactly how many *gear items* they will add lol.

Please surprise me, mechanically. Like with the i560 job gear mechanics of syncing to 89 or 90. That, but like 20 more little new things like that.

The MSQ: I am just whatever at this point. We did not have an MSQ after 6.0. It was cut. We had a trial sidequest line in its place. Our MSQ to set up the new expansion was pretty much 6.55 so there was no time to build interest or investment. The more FFIX allusions I see, the less interested I get, because I feel like it’s going to drive the direction of the story too much. I want less obvious callbacks to other games.

One thing I am *always* hyped about is the new music. That man Soken just keeps bangin’ out the hits (FF16 as well).

I’m more looking ahead to the Cosmic Explorer activities because I hope to see new systems to engage with and creativity in the massively-multiplayer format honestly. Endwalker just did not have people playing together. Please no more activities that MUST be completed solo (island).

Most of the people are hyped but you want to know who isn't hyped? The ones who aren't are the most boring people who play the game, hang out in Limsa for hrs, and chat stupid stuff.

Im mostly worried about it going the stormblood way, lots of diplomatics. If thats the case, its not the most interesting stuff to happen. Its not bad, but also not great. It to me feels more like a filler story.

But it does offer more of a build up acros expansions if my guess is true. Going full epic and above every expansion gets dull quickly, so to me that would be a good thing. Stormblood was great in that it was several problems combined, and each problem had a chain effect if not resolved. But I just hope they realy make the plot a good one. Not another world ending event, but still something that has a lot of danger involved.

I also hope its not going to involve the void. Just randomly visiting all these other worlds will also get dull quickly. It should remain a special thing to happen, open travel will very quickly open the door for the other worlds. And at least some of the main characters should get harmed in such way they are out of the story for quite a while. Making it impossible to easily access all information/people forces creative solutions.

Outside of that, i will most likely just enjoy the extremes, which if those fights are good will compensate a lot to me if the story has some issues.

Uhhh well, To me the graphics was the main part that sold me the expansion, I'm not excited about jobs being simple. Realistically I'm cautiously optimistic about the game but who knows. The devs are in a dangerous spot right imo, because since its a soft relaunch of the game if people get the impression that its the same thing again no way they'll stay for another 10 years, I think they would run for the hills which is what I might do. As a long term subscriber the gameplay and lack of things to do (that aren't random niche content) reached terminal boredom with Endwalker. So I'm waiting for Dawntrail to show me if the future of this game is worth it or not.

So yeah... Graphics gets you in the door, gameplay keeps the players. This is just a wait and see thing for now... But whatever happens in Dawntrail will decide the future of the game.

I'm interested, but not especially hyped. I want to see where the game's going, but with the existing story over and only a few threads about the next one, there just hasn't been much to get me hyped over.

I'm also in this camp. There are things I am excited about such as new job actions, the fate of DRG and AST reworks, new crafting recipes and gathering nodes, new glamour, additional housing slots for decorating, and what kind of mechanics they'll cook up for new encounters.

But generally speaking for DT, there isn't a lot that's grabbing me. MSQ, new zones, leveling to 100, new tribe quests, new side quests, gathering the aetherial thingamabobbers to gain flight in new zones, new custom deliveries, the new jobs, graphic update, etc. I honestly don't care much about any of it. I'm more excited about when blunderville will make a return.

I feel like I should be more excited, but I'm just not. The healing/tanking situation is a big reason for this. EW is the first expansion where I can't really say I'm a healer main as I've done most of my content clearing as a melee DPS. The situation has become really bad and feels toxic. If it continues in DT, I cannot say with confidence that I'll be around for 8.0.

Honestly the graphic update has squandered any excitement I had for it before we saw what characters looked like, and I've been wary of the story since they announced where it was going because the 6.x patches hadn't exactly filled me with confidence, and the Scions getting center stage in the trailer underscored that for me. If it ends up a red herring and it's mostly the Wuk Lamat & Co. show I will be very happy, don't get me wrong, but I don't have any real expectations for it so I'm just hoping we don't have to deal with yet another world-ending threat. Please. Please just stay local problems this time.

Don't get me wrong, I want to be proven wrong and have my socks blown off. But I don't anticipate that happening.
