RP shout ads are obstructive to chat and gameplay

Thanks for the feedback azhrel! It's nice to see people speak up about it here. Everyone complains in game, or other places, but it doesn't do anything unless it's here in the official forums for the devs to see it. There has been a few trolls here on this thread so if any of them give you grief, just ignore them. Most of them have been dealt with by mods, thankfully. It's refreshing to see another voice saying the exact same thing I've been saying about this, for the past few years. Enough is enough already. If you have friends who feel the same, encourage them to support the thread!

I don't know why people bothered trying to silence me and derail this thread with so much effort, when the solution I suggest makes it easier to advertise and keeps chat free of spam. It's literally better for every single person in the community, except those who thrive on being a nuisance to others.

The major issue I see with setting a cap on advertiser's is that it would be super easy to grief. Say it's 2 advertiser's and any extra get chat restricted (as an example). As soon as the first one goes up someone else unrelated to the venue could make a second. Now the actual second advertiser's will be punished since someone else got to it first.
Not saying this would be common but any system that can be exploited by bad people isn't good.

I like the idea apkallu had about collapsing the messages. Take it a step further by combining multiposts as well (3 messages ads).

Nah. Pf wise they could just make it so anymore then the cap isn't able to be posted at all. Slightly harder via shouts but easier to program into pf

How would you be able to code that in though? Or enforce it. Unless you link the pf to the plot itself but even then that still has the issue of someone else claiming that ad spot in pf before you do.

You know, I remember when the EPR and Venue Ads were in EVERY section of PF, and we eventually HAD to make them use their own section. This is the same exact issue but shout chat, So give them their own Section. We've literally HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE!

I wouldn't classify the 2 as the same. Pf has dedicated sections for certain type of content and is made to advertise something specific in said category.
Shout has always been a free for all and has no rules outside of normal chat TOS.

You made an unfair comparison. That's what I was responding too.
The outcome of both situations is you being annoyed but the issue/solution are not the same as I pointed out.

^ idk man.. it kinda is... If Yoshi came out and said they're making the 4 chat tabs kinda smaller (less wide) and sticking a 5th on there and it's only to be used for ANY KIND of Venue ad... and to stay out of normal shouts.... and if you don't you'll be suspended like they did telling these people to stick to "other" in PF..... IT is kinda the same thing and as annoying (and i use that term loosely) as some people are I'm pretty sure if he laid down the law like that people would follow the rules. Shout could actually be used for what it's for then. A random FC ad here and there that doesnt' get buried in 5 venue ads that happen to go off at the same time... people could talk about the game, ask for help, announce a hunt etc
