Cait Sith's Megaphone
Cait Sith's Megaphone
At this point in time I'm done requesting a hammer job; it's clear we'll keep getting more blade jobs until the game goes into maintenance mode.
As for what character? I'd use any Green Mage viera; so far every race seems to have a job that's representative or born in their lands except viera.
It doesn't have to be a main character. Relm's not the main character of FF6 yet we're getting Pictomancer. I wouldn't completely discount the chance of them basing a ranged job off Wakka.Except Wakka was never FFX's 'main' character, that was Tidus and Yuna (a... generic swordsman/magic knight and WHM/SMN respectively). Yeah Tidus was a blitzball player, but that didn't continue into battle when he used a sword, and, well, we now have multiple sword using Jobs. So I'm pretty confident FFX is not going to serve as a model for a Job to come.
And it was my understanding SE had already considered and discounted Chemist as a Job twice now (firstly with HW where we got AST, and more recently with EW and SGE), I think we can safely rule out Chemist ever being a thing (after all, FFXI never had it either in it's 20+ years of service).
Seconding Wakka for a Blitzballer job (didn't he also have aspects of Gambler too? That would also be an interesting job, like... Setzer was it? And Luxord. But RNG sucks in FFXIV, so idk how that would work.).
Man I kinda wish this was the kind of route RPR took, I love me some body horror.
Only if it can also go out of control like the end of Akira :3Seconding Wakka for a Blitzballer job (didn't he also have aspects of Gambler too? That would also be an interesting job, like... Setzer was it? And Luxord. But RNG sucks in FFXIV, so idk how that would work.).

I'd still like to see an ACTUAL Bard job, with a harp and everything, like Edward/Gilbert from FFIV. Make it a new healer, but with a nice mix of party buffs and enemy debuffs. Call it "Minstrel" instead, to differentiate the name.
That could be an interesting "limited job" where we can use any skill we've learned from any job in the game. Maybe bring back some of the old abilities that got deleted from the game over the years? The skill animations still have to work though, so rather than the Freelancer actually equipping a physical weapon you would instead briefly conjure a "spirit weapon" into your hands which matches the job the skill is from.

TBF, it could be interesting to see some FFX stuff as a job. Not necessarily any one character or their weapons, but the skills in the game. You have things like party buffing via Cheer, Aim, Luck, enemy debuffing via Armor/Power/Mental/Magic Breaks with Auron, some Time Magic stuff on Tidus like Haste/Slow (which here would be a selfbuff so as not to throw off other people's GCD, most likely), and of course Mix (which here would likely function more akin to NIN mudras). In fact I think I saw someone made a TOS-breaking mod to change NIN mudra animations into Mix. Anyway, there's just about enough in FFX to make a job out of, and if anything, I'd like to see a focus on some specific skills to build a rotation out of. Specifically, the Breaks. Having a DPS that mimics the old PLD rotation style of 'Physical Phase, then Magic Phase' by swapping between Armor Break (akin to old Fight or Flight) and Mental Break (a Magic FOF, filling in for Requiescat) could potentially be interesting, and Extract Power/Magic/Speed skills (the ones that guarantee sphere drops) could be a selfbuff to increase a stat for that phase. Something like 20s of Power (harder hits), 20s of Magic (harder magic hits), 20s of Speed (the filler), which would be akin to what BRD has currently with it's songs. And then Cheer as a partywide 5% damage buff, because every job needs one of those nowadays, apparentlyExcept Wakka was never FFX's 'main' character, that was Tidus and Yuna (a... generic swordsman/magic knight and WHM/SMN respectively). Yeah Tidus was a blitzball player, but that didn't continue into battle when he used a sword, and, well, we now have multiple sword using Jobs. Many FF characters were already turned into jobs, but Setzer is still there for a future Gambler scouting job.
Weapon: Whip (unique mid-range weapon) + offhand 'gambler accessory' like cards, darts, magic dice

Not a FF character, so I'll be a bit off-topic with my answer. But I would love to have a Cleric (from Dnd games) in FFXIV. Melee healer, with a huge mace (a weapon we haven't got yet!) and replication of divine domain for buffs and debuffs. To be more in tune with the topic : Gaïa could be an inspiration.
