So different areas can still have distinguishing characteristics and characters from those areas would be recognizable. Like the Ala Mhigan example. It's not a direct correlation with real life location, but when you hear an Ala Mhigan in the game, you can tell exactly where they're from. Or you hear someone like Erenville and while it didn't identify location, the Icelandic accent does trigger a cultural identity of being a Viera.

I think they've been careful not to have a 1 to 1 correlation exactly so we don't end up having arguments like this and instead make these associations in game based on the distinguishing characteristics they establish there.



That was great! Here she is facing down angry tough mobs and the thing she just can't even with? A giant bird. It was one of those endearing little traits like Ysayle finding the moogles adorable.

People forget that localization and the fact that one community gave Accents to random races in the game, doesn't have much to do with a VA performance.

it's all just strawmen from those who have a bone to pick against this VA for either. Their own perceived notion, or mismatch of the character. Or dislike of the characters attitude/person. (and unfortunately the fact she is who she is outside the game.)

Her personal beliefs aside.
(cause let's be honest, typecasting VA's cause of their origin to only play certain roles is ridiculous and harming to overall quality.)
[which, ironically. for people playing a JP MMO that has allowed slight divergences to the way the characters are interpreted.
But has brought out some great localization regardless.(Cause it always follow the story, and intent)

Yet we have some making arguments against Wuk Lamat, who for all intents and purposes. At Minimum met her intent when localized.

Just to add, as someone who works in translation, it’s easy to translate words and nuance, but accents and “stereotypical” characters are really hard.

Take a Pixar movies like Cars. It’s really hard to convey the redneck accent or a yeehaw cowboy acccent whereas in English the accent alone conveys so much information. Even in star wars, characters like Yoda don’t have the wonky grammar like English…he just talked like stereotypical old man #4.
