Tbh, I don't really care about it one way or another as someone who hasn't really played other FF games (XV and VII Crisis Core notwithstanding). As long as it's well done and with passion behind it, I'm happy.

Same with jobs, be they new to the series or reference to older games, I'm happy as long as they are fun to play and with interesting theme.

tbh if anything i feel like some of the legacy jobs are for Real Oldheads who know their stuff when it comes to legacy FF jobs. sure, pictomancer isn't exactly a common job, but (especially in the west) ff6 is heralded as one of the best ff games and is the one that basically defines final fantasy's entire identity for a lot of people.

i yelled at my screen whenever i saw pictomancer because i love FF6, and i'm sure FF4 fans got a huge kick out of sage too.

I know I got quite loud when GNB was shown as the new tank (my first FF was 8, and I was a tank main at the time)

The one thing that I'd have enjoyed about GEO being the new caster, though, would be seeing how Yoshi-P would have rationalized 'Krile discovered a clue that implies her adoptive grandfather went to the New World. Upon realizing this, her first action was not to make preparations to go there with the rest of the Scions, but to make a quick detour to the opposite side of the world to learn a Hingashi-specific discipline of magic'

Pictomancer screams classic FF to me, more than sage, which still is very much classic FF, with XIV's take on it. Viper sounds foreign but it's really looking like Zidane form FFIX.

To be honest, unless you've played a lot of Final Fantasies (Mostly Tactics out of your list, it seems), these jobs are pretty obscure. From my experience, most players have only played a handful, and some haven't played any aside XIV. I think that "obscure" ones are the only ones that are really left.

I think the "original" ones are fine. They all have some grounding on something in Final Fantasy games. Gunbreaker is obviously Squall. Viper is probably inspired by Zidane (yes, I know he was a Thief, more his weapon style). Even Reapers may have been inspired by XI Dark Knights that missed their scythe.

If this is just a list of jobs you wanted to see in Dawntrail, I'm sorry it didn't happen. I hope the next expansion has at least one of them for you (except Geomancer. Probably my favorite jobs in Tactics, but lets face it. With the way it exists in the lore of the game right now, it'd play nothing like it). Personally, I'm pretty jazzed about Pictomancer. I'm a bit of a sketcher in RL, so I've always liked the concept. Might make it my main, depending on how it plays. Viper's seems pretty cool. Going to wait til I see the Move Showcase Trailer and get it in my hands on it before I pass judgement on it. Truth be told, if I were back in my "Always played Fighter/Thief in D&D" days, i'd probably be all over that Job instead.

Would these have been my first choice? No. I'd have picked gambler/corsair. Or maybe a magic based tank (Rune Fencer...or Green Mage...think about it. Uses Protect and Shell to defend themselves instead of heavy armor, and absorbs the kinetic/magical force of the hits they take and unleashes it back at the attacker with devastating hammer blows!...*ahem*) However, I'm willing to give these a new ones a try before passing judgment.

The only classic job I wanna see added is anything else with an unconventional weapon.

Like they could add in Templar, but they only use a one handed mace mixed with heals? We need a melee weapon with a satisfying *CRUNCH* sound to it, and less blades.

If they add a classic job that would be my choice, but I really hope they continue adding new jobs we haven't seen. Viper and Pictomancer are unique enough to stand out from the rest of the class fantasies. Can only imagine what they end up bringing next, hell you can kill people with frigging paint, but not a mace.

Make it happen Yoshi-P, I see you reading this.

serge from chrono cross too, which doesn't feel coincidental considering the tropical imagery they've been pushing hard as a part of this expansion.

wouldn't be the first time that ffxiv took influence/took elements wholesale from chrono cross.

We do have chemist, it's called alchemist. They make an assortment of potions that heal us, cure ailments, and buff themselves and other characters.

"There aren't enough classic jobs, Pictomancer has only been in like... TWO GAMES!"

[Suggests jobs that have only appeared in FF5 and FF11]

I would prefer they stop adding jobs. every time a full job gets added, abilities, usually job defining ones, are removed from existing jobs and given to the shiney new one. This further leads to homogenization and making everyone the same, which few people actually like or want.

The only reason to add new jobs is to appease some screamers, and to give people something to level so they dont run through the new "content" in a day. its too late now for 7.0, but I would prefer they.. work on fixing and making more unique the jobs they already have.

the "classic" jobs the OP mentioned, are only classic to them. not really sure we need new jobs of a different name that pretty much do the same as the ones we have now. (for instance.. ranger, I wonder what current job would lose skills to that one.... oh, let me see.. bard maybe?)
