I'd rather see some Ivalice races like the Bangaa, Ivalice moogles or Nu Mous. As much as I wouldn't play something like a Bangaa, I think they would add a ton of variety to the world, and it would be great to see them around. Of course, that won't happen, all of those races have very non human body shapes

personally i'd much prefer sliders / more faces and such to the current races ( free pick colours for skin/hair/eyes would be EPIC ! )
but for a new race, if not lupin, maybe another dog-humanoid race ? like miqo but dog based ( i just like animals lol )
another small race could be good. maybe a short animal lizard race could be good, something between lala and fem aura in height, but hair would be hard for a reptilian race i think.

if anything i'd prefer some sub-races.
aka make the current sub races just options ( example: pick slit or rounded eyes for miqo'te, pick having either normal teeth or fangs, etc )
and make a 'real' sub race. i remember people were wanting feol really bad when viera came out.
doing it that way would allow them to add a 'new' race ( aka, generate hype and fantasia sales lol ), but still reuse a lot of assets ( just needing some face changes for the 'new' races )
this would require re-building a lot of framework for the current character creator though. but i think it would be a suitable option for longevity

example: every expansion SE could release a new sub-race, as outlined above. 8.0 could be the feol and maybe something for elezen ? a shorter elf race, or maybe something a little less Lanky compared to current elezen.
then 9.0 they release 2 more, etc.
maybe making the sub races a bit more restrictive ( only 2-3 faces vs current 4 ) but still unique enough to be hyped about. would also allow for building off the current skeletons and could just reuse 90% of the same racial animations.

i'm just rambling. i think that'd be a good mid-way idea. something still "new" but not to the point where it's pulling away a LOT of resources.

My main vote is for demon and succubus Au Ra, as one of the original concept arts had. Then, honestly, body morphs so I can muscle and stand upright lol.

Better character creation / options I feel could go a long way. So much so it might be easier and more productive to add more clans afterwards, as you could use the animations with diverse options for cost effective changes. SE's allied races, if you will. Though following that I feel moogle-kin would be neat.

Personally don't care about the hats, though I think for pragmatic reasons all mog shop and thefore transitively all seasonal / holiday stuff should fit. I think I'd care more about skilled tail armor / consideration than hats. Part of the reason for being an odd race is that I want to see the face lol. That said it would obviously be better looking if all hats just worked.

    Lupin would be fun.

Hyur/Elezen mix would be a hit, and easy to make.

When their conditions, and political relations improve in the story, Garleans would be easy to implement. It would also be fun if they got like a flavorful passive that added like 'magitek ___' or 'augmented ___' to ability names because they're not good at using aether.

More variations for existing races would be great.

Any of the races from tribal quests would be fun.

My concern, at this point, with them adding more new races is that there are still aspects of Viera and Hrothgar that aren't quite on par with existing races. If they're able to complete a system that brings them more into parity so hats, pre-existing hairs, etc can look decent with them I'd absolutely be down... but I'd hate to see undercooked races pushed out just for the sake of having more races.

I really don't think making new races is a good use of developer time. The way FFXIV expects you to have only one character, it's a waste to invest more into adding race options that are really only for new player choice or fantasia addicts/whales. I say this as an altoholic who typically likes having a bunch of characters in MMOs, and does have a few different characters in FFXIV anyway just because I want to.

It's such a huge drain on dev resources, in a game that gets more and more complicated and more work-intensive every expansion. We can't even get both sexes of races at once -- it took YEARS to get male viera, and even more YEARS to get female hrothgar. And after all that, the people who play those races perpetually feel like illegitimate afterthoughts with non-functioning headware glams being the norm.

Y'all complain about that $18 USD glam set that went on the cash shop, but what else is a new playable race but essentially a cash shop aesthetic item to sell fantasias? And you say the Endwalker patch cycle has been dry and devoid of content, but (among other things) Viera and Hrothgar have been a constant strain on them since 2019. It weighs down on everything, from new glams, to NPCs, to animations, to writing and voice acting, to fixing graphical clipping issues, etc. New races are a colossal creative and financial investment, for (in my opinion) very little payoff.

I’d much rather have more customization options for all the current races, and/or additional sliders to adjust more facial and body features to create a truly unique look.

But if they ever do add another, I’d like to see a more mature, traditional style dwarf to go alongside the Lalas as a second small race. I’m thinking muscular males with lots of beard options, and buxom females with lots of curves.

I'd rather existing races be brought to par before thinking about new ones. Viera and especially Hrothgar are missing a lot of options, and any new race would likely be in a similar if not worse boat.

More options within current races, though, that I would like a lot.
