I'd just be happy for permanent sprint when not in combat option.

Ohh, Mao thinkings is not good idea at ALL for mounts to be allowed in major cities. Mao can just see all the griefings that would be done.

How about a special mount only for cities: Roller Skates!?

Hell no. If you think the current multiboxing AFKers are annoying imagine them all on Lunar Whales.
Agreed but only in areas that are outside. That's how it works in island sanctuary so i don't see why they couldn't do that in at least a few areas of the cities.
Some of the cities just are not designed for it and the last thing we need is mounted players gathered at the marketboards.
We already have a few end game cities where we can mount up so the player community would just need to agree on which to use if you want a place to show off. Mor Dhona would be a fairly good choice since players are frequently going in and out of the Rising Stones for MSQ. Idyllshire would be another good choice being more open and traffic going in and out for custom deliveries, Wondrous Tails and Faux Hollows.
I don't want people to see my chocobo. I keep it secret.

They could make certain areas no-mount like Island Sanctuary, although visually it would still be wild. Like even if you locked off every market board and indoor space, which would be annoying to mount and unmount.. there are a lot of spaces that just would turn into walls of nonsense. Exiting Uldah atheryte would make you feel like it was a locked off room lol.
I like the idea of more mount hub spaces though. Also, I think all no-mount cities should just have toggle sprint. Turn it on, turn it off, your choice. Infinite duration. If you want to gameify it, associate it will the neighbor region mount speed unlocks (such that if the region has max mount speed then the cities to that region have infinite sprint, like thanalan means Uldah).
An aside but on the topic of hubs, it would be cool to see more in-zone hubs like Mor Dhona- where there is content in the hub space itself.

The old cities are just way too small and confined for even smaller mounts in large numbers, never mind all of the later giant mounts. Allowing mounts would require redesigning the maps, and that just ain't happening on this team's development budget.
Newer cities could be designed for it, but then again, the Crystarium has plenty of wide-open space and still doesn't allow it, so.....
