No one cautiously optimistic about the East Coast data center?

It will only be worse for EU players if the East and West Coast Datacenters aren't connected in any way. Playing on an East Coast server would likely see your ping be reduced by around 50-60.
Back when the servers were hosted in Montreal, my ping was at a comfortable 105-110. After the datacenter relocation to the West Coast, that increased to 165-170.

But as Remish has mentioned, if there'd be an option to travel between East and West Coast datacenters, everyone would still travel to Aether for content anyway.

Yeah that's my bad I'm extra tired and I misunderstood east coast and west coast... lol... so yeah it'll be a good thing for us europeans on NA then, works for me.

Agree with the Aether thing though, the same thing will just happen again, Dynamis hasnt even filled all 4 worlds that were created (Seraph is ok, the other 3 are just absolute deserts), and they are adding 4 more in the future, plus another DC then for this cloud thing, it's just spreading the community at this point and I really dont think the game needs it at all, it's detrimental to the active dc's health.

Just a Cloud Server Test that is new characters only, that'll get wiped as soon as the test ends.

As for its purpose, couldn't tell you.
Feels like Emergency Servers incase of overflood/load. Except they're testing before hand where it won't affect long standing character data.

The test giving out free books and 50m gil should be a fairly substantial clue as to one of the true purposes of this test. Hardly a number you arrive at by chance.

There's substantial value in trying to get a full deployment to operate like this, so you have an ace in your pocket if another demand surge arises. It's expensive, but not as expensive as having to stop selling the game entirely. I suspect, however, that the primary motivation is for working out any technical kinks around distributing and offloading instances into the cloud. There's quite a lot of merit to doing that with the sort of instance where the demand is extremely elastic, and the performance and spin-up requirements are comparatively low...

Though I imagine some groups/personalities will be making plans on what to do when the Test Arrives. As some in the more community known podcasts even thrown ideas around how some folk will likely make small events out of the temporary Cloud Test.

I am optimistic about it. In fact, it is the most exciting news for me for the entire fan fest. Currently, playing on one of the 4 dcs on US west coast causes me unable to double weaving anything without clipping for jobs with a gcd faster than ~2.5 s. If the new cloud dc option at ease coast gets permanently implemented, I can finally play jobs like samurai, monk, and ninja.
You know, it is kind hard hard to get excited of the new jobs, if I cannot enjoy playing them with the clippings.

If still connects through NTT the problem with the ping will always be there. NTT is problem node and they know it. This is the only game that really gives me ping issues and each and every time a trace is ran it points to NTT.

They couldnt even fill Dynamis, and it wont fill in DT either, except maybe for a short time, maybe a few months at most until the population gets back to normal.

An entire new DC will be good news for us housing enthusiasts I guess, but aside from that it'll just be a dead DC yeah. Yet another one after Materia and Dynamis lol, it's like they dont learn a single thing from what is going on, just like when they mentioned last week or so that they are not aware of any imbalance in between datacenters aside from JP, basically implying that it's not a thing that everyone goes to Aether for content.
