I'm not sure it would be as effective here, as there are a large number of players who would stay subbed no matter how terrible the game is. The Yoshi-P cult of personality is strong. And if you need to have an example to why "just unsub" if you're just wholefully unsatisfied with the state of the game. Look at World of Warcraft during Shadowlands where people just finally got fed up with the expansion and migrated to other MMOs forcing Blizzard to finally make some wanted changes to the game in the last patch for it and in Dragonflight.

Have you ever entertain the thought the reason people stay sub because they actually enjoy the game? Or you deep denial self will never allow you to consider such thought?
I wonder if this is some kind of personal projection at work? Just because you think the game is terrible but stay sub anyway (lol?), doesn't mean everyone is the same. Before trying to gaslight people into some kind cult of personality, maybe have some reflection on your own personality first?
I'm actually a very stinky person, even if Yoshi were the 2nd coming of Jesus, if he hadn't made the game I want to play he wouldn't get a penny from me.
It's not YoshiP keeping people tied to the game. It's either sunk cost fallacy or...
wait for it...
Some of us are genuinely enjoying the game and don't see a need to quit.
Just because you and others are unhappy doesn't mean there are yet more players still having a good time.
Or there are a large number of players who stay subbed because they enjoy playing every now and then, and are not forced to play every day by the reward systems. Those players also know next to absolutely nothing about who produces the game, although a couple of them might have watched a Live Letter once or twice.
My bet is this is a better explanation: "Coming back to play after being away from the game for a few weeks or months is relatively easy" vs "the raiding scene forces players to stay subbed in order to keep up".
Even I dont even do actual savage content and stuff and I know for a fact that the system is MADE by design to keep people subscribed, if you want to gear another job to savage gear, it takes literally months and monthsOr there are a large number of players who stay subbed because they enjoy playing every now and then, and are not forced to play every day by the reward systems.
