It seems 7.0 is very contained with its summer vacation vibes...why not have 8.0, 9.0 all be treated like a self-contained story with their own arc, villain, save the day and move on?

Why even have expansions? 7.0 is just 5.12, there's nothing new anymore.

its been pretty clear that the next couple expansions are going to be a second multi expansion saga

Please no more Zenos. I hated him at first, then slowly started to at least understand him a bit even though I knew he was crazy, and then we got to finish him off Metal Gear Solid 4 style. The only thing missing was we weren't on top of a warship.

I think one "stand alone" expac would be doable. But at the same time, depends on what you mean by stand alone. If it takes place on Eorzea then almost inevitably we'll at least run in to another NPC from that location when we're somewhere else down the line. Or have its events referenced as a past adventure.

If by stand alone you mean we don't have the same villain(s) behind the events of every expac, that's more doable. We might have that now, for all we know. So far, there seems to be nothing Void/Golbez related about Dawntrail's plotline. He may very well be a B plot that we see virtually nothing of this expac, like Stormblood and Ascians. So this expac may be pretty standalone in that sense.

I don't feel they will pull off a multi-expansion arc with this place anyway. I get the sense we are going to expore all the areas around the city of gold and then go there, then the island is done with.

All the other places we could go are likely to be self-contained.

• Remaining few unexplored squares of Ilsabard and Othard.
• Shards, which would probably be as self-contained as Shadowbringers.
• Meracydia, which does look large enough to have more than one expansion's areas, but we could have said the same about Othard or Ilsabard...

I wouldn’t mind it either. Dealing with a myriad of smaller scale issues while exploring the world seems like a grand old time. But what was said in the keynote does make it seem like we’re going to get a new arc built over multiple expansions, so I wouldn’t place any bets on Dawntrail being a one-off.

Agree. Even though Yoshi-P said 7.0 is supposed to be a new start/beginning. I can't bring myself to fully believe him.
