I'm sure there will be a lot of players thrilled by the new items, but personally I don't find them that interesting.
Also, cash shop revenue goes back into FFXIV. It's your subscription that's going to support FFXVII.
It’s almost like they’re surprised they put stuff into the cash shop, there is still plenty of gear, mounts and minions etc in the game which you can earn in game unlike say WoW, ESO, BDO, Blue Protocol etc etc

Bit of an off-topic for the thread itself but I find the inclusion of WoW weird in this list because it has 1053 mounts from different activities, some having been retired/unavailable'd aye but out of that only 29 are shop ones. Minions are the same, 1703, some retired/unavailable and 23ish shop ones. Lets not get into gear when for example my wow paladin currently has 644 different looks she can earn just for plate chestpieces while shop only sports 5 cosmetic sets. For all categories, recolors happen of course but for what game doesn't?
And in Dragonflight expansion they came up with a sort of 'battlepass' system that while only offering cosmetics and being on a monthly rotation, sometimes has mounts and pets previously available from the real money shop but now purchasable for currency that you can purely only get through doing different in game activities, be it PvE, PvP, fluff related to events like using fireworks in certain zones/cities etc. There is a capped amount of the currency which you can earn each month and a bonus free reward at the end of the progress bar, but the way they have balanced it has you completing the whole bar in 1-2 hours if you want to while doing the most simplest/quickest tasks, else it can be completed passively with just playing the game as you would.
Because many (likely most) FFXIV players came as "refugees" from WoW when Blizzard was under sexual harassment allegations. So by default, if FFXIV does anything, it's better than WoW. They still have rose-tinted glasses and put all the other MMOs in the same box as "anti-FFXIV" products. Of course, they don't play the actual game, they just AFK and install illegal third-party mods while playing other games.Bit of an off-topic for the thread itself but I find the inclusion of WoW weird in this list because it has 1053 mounts from different activities, some having been retired/unavailable'd aye but out of that only 29 are shop ones. As the exact opposite (from FFXIV to WoW), I found the lack of shop content to be jarring. Everyone was busy playing the game. It's hard to understand why these people love FFXIV and hate WoW, and when asked, they usually go off on a tangent about American politics or bring up something from 18 years ago. It's never about FFXIV, it's about why they hate their former crack dealer.

What? FF14 has exponentially more items in the cash shop then WoW. I can't speak for the other games though.
Edit: I was bored and had nothing better to do, so I went and did some counting.
WoW Cash Shop (Excluding services like level boost, realm transfer, etc)
25 mounts
25 pets (minions)
1 toy
5 glamour sets
FFXIV Cash Shop (Still excluding services and fantasia)
121 Costume Sets
31 Mounts
47 Emotes
2 Eternal Bond sets
30 Weapon glamours
119 Armour Glamours
20 Accessories
41 Minions
12 Chocobo Bardings
44 Orchestrion Rolls
157 Housing Items

I don't have nearly enough time to add up all the FF14 items but someone did it in 2020 and came out to $2616.50, and that was three years ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...ng_on_the_mog/)

Dragon Quest X also has a pretty full on cash shop. It has an incredibly large amount of items for glamour, mounts, colouring items, housing, emotes, accessories, HUD Face expressions and ingame buffs. Games playable without it for sure but it has orbs that boost EXP gain for 30 minutes, treasure map content and so on. The XIV store is certainly par for the course for Square Enix. At least the prices aren't as incredibly painful.Still bored so I went through and added the price of all WoW cash shop items, which comes out to $935

I honestly wonder if the people making comments such as this have actually played the likes of World of Warcraft. Blizzard don't exactly skimp when it comes to dangling carrots on the stick to work towards in-game. There's treasures in the open world to hunt down, puzzles to solve, various reputations to grind and unlock rewards and the most recent patch added 'Time Rifts' which have multiple different vendors offering multiple mounts, pets, toys and glamour options.
It's always struck me as really strange how a vocal portion of FFXIV's community allow the development team to get away with never really innovating or offering more in-game rewards to please a greater variety of players.
