Also I think you're right on with how Elidibus and Lahabrea were trying to handle Emet-Selch. Re-watched a couple of early cutscenes and Emet was literally old, sick, and dying in his original Solus body at the beginning of ARR. And he was really pissed about being woken up again so soon, too. The guy was basically depression-sleeping and both Elidibus and Lahabrea seemed to prefer that (despite Elidibus commenting that Emet-Selch is extremely effective, meanwhile Lahabrea repeatedly trips over himself) than making further use of him. Also makes me wonder a bit if Lahabrea's original world has already been rejoined or if he's technically supposed to be doing something elsewhere and whatever his original job was got put on hold.

Emet and the Exarch parallel in given that they have the "Adventure-sexual" vibe. The difference being of course Emet is more attached to your past self wishing to sacrifice all else, and the Exarch sees who you are and strived for a sacrifice of himself in the future in your name.

Speaking of the Heart of Sabik, replaying through Praetorium earlier today made me wonder something: why exactly did Lahabrea want to access the Ultima spell? I mean, aside from "bringing the hammer of darkness on the shield of light", how was blowing up the Imperial base and laughing like a maniac going to further the cause of the Eighth Rejoining?

It is likely a case that Ultima, which is a spell that we know came from an alien being who got stuck on the world, is an Astral aka light aspected spell. Which would make it, and thus the Ultima weapon, able to function as a catalyst for the 8th rejoining. Enough power pumped into it an he could wipe out entire city states to cause the start of a calamity that would cascade from there that might have destroyed all of Eorzea.

I wonder what happened to Heart of Sabik? It did not seem like a single use item, so I guess it was not destroyed when Ultima was cast. But it seems Lababrea never used it again.

More than likely the answer to all of these questions is this: the writers never thought that far ahead. They needed a reason as to why the Ultima Weapon was so important and needed to provide a means in which we fought Gaius again, so that we could have three phases for that fight.

I don't recall ever hearing about the Heart of Sabik before that scene, nor have I heard about it since. In other words, it's true power and significance was plot.

There are places where published writers are incompetent and lazy enough to make something happen "because I said so" and leave it at that permanently, but given their track record SE is not one of them.

I do think it's possible that at the time they introduced the Heart of Sabik, the devs didn't have an answer in mind. However, the approach that seems to be in play from 1.0 onward is that a very basic framework gets laid and then fleshed out retroactively. From our perspective as players, there was no explanation initially and then later one was created. Within the narrative though, there has always been an explanation. We just didn't always know it.

Since SE is going through the effort to build around the bones they laid out, it is reasonable for fans to speculate on how that might happen.

Soooo... I'm shamelessly necroing this post because... well, now we know.

I for one was wrapped up in this mistery a lot back in the day, and this went WAY past even the craziest theories I could think of.

So, what are your thoughts, specially in contrast of our earlier theories?

Glad they finally tied up that loose end, but annoyed they had to shamelessly throw Ivalice fanservice into a raid series that's supposed to be homage to II.
