The Scions offer nothing to the story, ALL of them are the Krillin's of FF14. Something happens on screen and SE feels that we need a character to hold our hand and explain what just happened literally 4 seconds ago. Sadly though that is a lot of SE's JRPG's they think they're super deep and require explaining when it is the exact opposite.

I'm on the fence. I don't think they need to be killed off, but with quite a few of the Scions their storylines have definitely been concluded. Ali, Alphy, Urianger can certainly be left to their own devices. Thancred and Y'shtola I wouldn't mind see returned to the first as both have strong ties to that reflection. Matoya on the source seems to refuse to die, so Y'shtola can fill that roll on the first. Thancred would still serve well being a mentor and father figure to Ryne and Gaia.

Krile and G'raha I have no issues with them sticking around as the remaining Scions that go along with the WoL on his/her adventures. Krile in particular I feel still has a lot of story to tell, and I think there are still some elements to her that are quite mysterious. G'raha simply just wants to adventure along our side, and I think that's ok. That dude has been through a lot. Besides, I think he's the only 'all rounder' among the trusts.

I believe that just leaves Estenien, and while his own story concluded a long arse time ago (probably back in HW), I think he could play an extremely important role if we do end up going to Myrcedia as an ambassador to the Brood. He deserves more than just being an ex machina member of the Scions.

While he is not officially a Scion, I think Jullus has a place as one being an apprentice the WoL takes under their wing. My own WoL sees him as being someone with an abundance of potential. So there you go, just a handful remaining to continue their stories and fill a light party: Krile, Estenien, Jullus, G'raha, and the WoL.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind this happening.

I don't even hate the Scions. I'm just bored with (most of) their characterization at this point. The narrative, so far, doesn't know what it wants to do with a lot of them, and it shows.

They let Lyse part ways, I'm sure they can do it with some of the others. Then, whenever we need them back in the story for a specific quest, we can visit them again. It would also allow other characters (both new and old) a chance in the spotlight.

This. The simple reality is that the Scions are hugely popular among the fanbase at large, minus the dozen or so utterly bitter, sad, negative dregs around here that hate everything about the game, anyway, and can't stand that other people enjoy it. Final Fantasy has never been Game of Thrones. People by and large play this game to relax, have fun, and enjoy a good story with characters they know and like without wondering who's going to be offed next. New adventures with old friends, mixed with introducing a few new characters (a la Zero) is the way I hope they go.

There's a lot of issues with this.

The Scions aren't super diverse. No one wants to force anything, but all of these characters have similar backgrounds and they have also known each other for far too long at this point. It really puts a damper on story building. Most of the Scions write themselves at this point, and not even in a good way.

Then there's the story constantly teasing their deaths. The writers toy with the audience in the same way over and over again to the point where most people get tired of the same plot device and learn when to expect it.

Also, the Scions do have nice individual interests, but for some reason they won't let any of them develop. This makes them much more blander and is another reason why they have become predictable characters that write themselves. This also makes it difficult to move the characters on in other directions.

We don't need to remove characters game of thrones style, but we do need to be able to control the size of the cast some, and these issues don't help.

Me wanting new characters doesn't mean I'm an "utterly bitter sad negative dreg that hates everything about the game and can't stand that other people enjoy it" lol what is this nonsense? I particularly love the twins and G'Raha, and I've been stating over and over that no one really needs to die at this point, but now I'm utterly bitter and whatever else for hoping for a new story with a new main cast and new friends to meet? This is crazy.

You're never gonna get into a positive or fruitful conversation opening with such an unfortunate statement, but you do you I guess...
