Pretty much.
Businesses have stakeholders, people. Though XIV goes against the grain sometimes, the stakeholders must be pleased with safe decisions.
Broad appeal is always a safe decision.
I mean you guys have probably heard of a niche TV show being announced that it's not being renewed for another season. I'm a shameless fan of Bryan Fuller's Hannibal for example and even I knew that that show was going to get the cut.
It's why XIV is going the route they are and while I may not like it - it's understandable.
Sanna: havent you ever looked at his eyes? The guy is still a kid inside, with a wicked grin. He's a gamer at heart, you can see that in everything he does..hasnt it ever occurred to anyone that THIS the reason he has been so successful?
BTW the following isnt aimed at you
Watch what happens every time he travels data centres, he is MOBBED everywhere he goes. Apart from this negative echo chamber, full of whiners and perpetual complainers, the rest of the playerbase is having a blast, playing every day and enjoying the hell out of themselves..a fact this lot tend to forget in their rush to nitpick tiny flaws or forever bloviating because the devs dont do what THEY want.
Aveyond is unbelievable, that "rewrite" of his falls flat on its face when you remember the one thing he HASNT considered is whether or not what he wants is what OTHERS want.
OF COURSE they play every day, OF COURSE the game is tested and checked, doesnt anyone remember pre Endwalker where Yoshi said he played ALL OF IT start to end?? Repeatedly? The expac was delayed because it didnt meet HIS standards..at least he and his team care, which is far more than i can say for other companies.
OF COURSE they have private characters, when was this ever in doubt? I am aware of at least two occasions from when they had an interview and the devs discussed runs they had had...remember that "that which he doesnt play" Aveyond whinefest ?
Yoshi said ( and take note on how this was conveniently glossed over ) that he hasnt done it on his PRIVATE character, he and the team play test every single facet of the game, Yoshi got frustrated with Sylphstep...yeah so does everyone else. Im not surprised he hadnt done Island on his own alt at that stage....with the work he puts in during the day, when would he find the time?
Pre Endwalker...he was on camera, utterly exhausted, looked like he hadnt slept in days.
No game is perfect. No game will make every single person happy. Someone somewhere will ALWAYS find flaws or issues and start their interminable whining. Know what makes me both angry and exasperated? In general,.with this forums denizens?
It doesnt matter what the devs do they.............they will never be satisfied.
Me? Right now my character is in the workshop crafting submarine components for a friend, the patch intervals dont worry me as they are SOP for any MMO.
Im having fun every day....not looking for ways to be utterly and habitually miserable.
Calling me a "white knight" and now a "paid shill for SE", pot, kettle, over. Remind me one day to introduce you to a seagull I once met...youd have a lot to learn from him.I guess we found someone that takes the forums too seriously.

Do you really think that if 6.4 came and fixed all of the problems people have with the game, that they'd still be unsatisfied?
I can't speak for everyone, but if 6.4 comes around and fixes the issues this game has, I'll be giving it the credit it deserves. I want FFXIV to be as good as it possibly can. I want it to excel. The game isn't living up to it's potential right now, and I'd like it to see that change. If that does change, many of the current issues are fixed, and the game sees genuine improvement, I can and perhaps will then be satisfied.
If we're being 100% serious, I don't actually think you're actually paid. If I had to guess, the only person here in this thread who makes posts worth paying for is probably Theodric.
As for the white knight part, I posted an exaggerated caricature of a white knight, and you unironically agreed with it, and months later doubled down on it. There's no conspiracy for me to make. If you have changed your stance on that matter since then, let me know. Otherwise, if it really makes you that upset, that's your problem. I am not interested in 'discussing' this topic further.
I think a fair point is that we don't have Exploration content this time - if you include Diadem, this is the first time since ARR we didn't have an Exploration Zone thing, which can be grindy (Eureka) or kind of bland (Bozja) to people, but it gives people things to work on during content droughts.
We're definitely seeing that, with patches being 2-4 weeks longer AND no "busywork" content like that, that the droughts feel a lot worse to a lot of players.
In ShB, if I did everything in the "main" game content (I didn't do any raiding until EW, though I did Extremes - been playing since ARR, btw - so Savage and Ultimates aren't the answer; even now that I dabble in Savages to get my other ring slot filled, I don't do it a lot and don't do Ultimates), I then could grind out Eureka and/or Bozja. Now, I have a lot less to get from those things, so do them much less and...there's not a modern EW version to waste my time in. And the patches are longer before new stuff comes out. And the non-raid parts of patches are delayed for 4-6 WEEKS for the X.Y5 patches for god only knows what reason instead of coming with the patch launch and the raid stuff being pushed to the X.Y5 so that we can keep doing the other stuff. Sure it caters to raiders this way so they can focus on their raiding BUT WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF US??
I'm not sure why they made the changes they made, but I DO feel like they were bad choices.
My biggest hope for 7.X is that they realize what a mistake this was and go back to having Exploration content, starting it early in both the patch cycle (ideally 7.1, but maybe 7.2), don't push non-raid stuff to the X.Y5 patches, and just generally let us have more busywork/grindy stuff to do during these longer patches when we kind of run out of things to do otherwise. And I'm one of the white knights here, but even I feel this was a mistake.
I think I know why they made those changes. Think about what's coming in 7.0...a graphical update across the board. They're likely spending the extra effort trying to get that done in time for 7.0. Or at least I HOPE that's what they're working on, since I don't think there'd be many complaints if the time was spent perfecting the graphical update (and giving full hair/helm privileges to Hrothgar and Viera).
Yeah totally.. Because when I put off all my homework and assignments until the end of the year, I end up doing it all in 1 night and getting an A in the class. Mhm. lol
Or more appropriately, I wait until the beginning of next year to turn in everything from last year.. And the year before.. And the year before..
It won't happen. No more lying to ourselves. Getting new shaders and lighting won't immediately fix all of the asset issues they dug themselves into.
