Lost my Large house in Empyreum. Super, SUPER bummed...

I love FFXIV. So I'm definitely not hear to talk smack on the game.

But man, this was a truly devastating experience.

I recently relocated, about three weeks ago, for work. I'd definitely logged in before the move, and *thought* I had when I first made it to my new place, but I totally could've spaced and thought I'd entered the house, when maybe I hadn't (ironic, because I spent almost all my time there, but I guess I spent more time running around the outside of the house).

Yahoo mail strikes again, automatically filtered the auto-demo notice, despite having added them as a contact. Although, curiously my friend logged in and said he didn't see a notice of demolition either, until AFTER he entered his house, when it said the auto-demolition had been cancelled (he normally only plays if I'm online, so he hadn't been logging in frequently enough, either).

Either way, it was absolutely devastating. Like, totally just "the straw that broke the camel's back" here, I actually had a minor breakdown (things aren't, like... super great in the rest of my life right now). And apparently, the house had JUST gone up for auction, so I at least put a bid on it. But there were over 130 bids, so clearly the odds weren't in my favor.

What makes it all the more devastating is that I'd actually paid someone a bunch of gil to help decorate my house with a cool Christmas theme. I was SO proud of my house, and even after Christmas, it was just a really cool vibe to chill out. It felt very "cozy".

But man, that was just such a crushing wave of disappointment, it does kind of sour my experience with the whole game. I tried logging in again lastnight, but was just so bummed out, I just immediate quit, and felt way worse. It's really killed my whole week.

So I dunno, not really sure what the take away here is. Sucks to move, I guess? It might be worth making it WAY more evident if your house is going to be demolished. In fact, I honestly feel like your house should remain "safe" as long as you have a subscription, but at the very least, maybe a super obvious window?

I suppose I can try to recover some of my housing items. Not really sure how, given HOW MANY items we had down. Even worse, I'd spent quite a lot of real money on Christmas-themed items on the Mog Station, which are obviously totally useless now.

Also sucks, because I'd had a number of folks visit and leave comments in the "journal" thing, folks really digging the "Christmas village" vibe of the place. Can you even still read those comments, or is all that information also lost with the house?

I was just so, so excited about my place, every single time I logged in, I had the plot right over the hot springs area (plot 30, Empyreum). I was always thinking about any ideas for decorating the houseside to better "mesh" with that, I'd dyed the roof to match the EXACT shade of green at the roof over that...

Either way... definitely feeling super, super bummed out. I definitely don't get the same "feel-good" feeling of logging in now. Just sort of feels like "one more thing that went wrong". This honestly might be the point I ought to just quit, I dunno.

The problem is that people have lives. Even the people that literally live on this game will likely at some point have something come up that forces their attention away from the game for 45 days. That's a sixth of a year, which is already a short time, and it's even shorter if you compare it to years worth of active subscriptions.

You could be dedicated to this game for years, and still lose it for absolutely no reason. People move/relocate, people have health issues, natural disasters occur. I'm sorry to tell you that most of us don't lead perfect lives where we will be guaranteed to always have a chance at logging in every 45 without issue over the course of multiple years.

I too have to remind myself to enter my house too from time to time. Actually I have marked these visitations on my calendar so I will do them at least every 30 days. I like my yard and garden the best. Those are the parts on the plot where I put more thought to make them feel nice to be around. +MB and bell are nearby, and generally the house's location as teleport destination is convenient for me.

Hang in there OP. It sucks, but I'm sure everything turns out alright.

I'm sorry, man. The whole housing system is definitely pretty cruel.

But if there's any silver lining, like the above poster said, you can at least feel free to let your sub lapse in the meantime. Take a break, focus on yourself, play some other games, and maybe it'll feel better to come back later. Maybe not. But time'll def put something like this in perspective, either way.

I don't honestly get the "Sucks to be you next time actually use your house" comments.

How many "vanity items" do you own in game that you never actually look at? In the armory, dresser, or whenever? How would you feel if they were taken away?

I know houses are scarce, but the lottery system is as fair as could be. And it seems like OP has some actual shit going on in their real life that takes precedence over logging in, even before considering 21 of those 45 days were spent having to move, which is not only a not very fun thing to do, but also likely a period of no internet connection at all. Show some compassion. Have you never taken long breaks from the game, never had things coming up?

It seems to me like the vitriol you reserve for people you don't deem worthy of owning a house would be better directed at SE instead for allowing the system to exist in this form. But can't bully the small indie company I guess.

Bottom of the line, something happened that is making this player enjoy the game a lot less, to the point of thinking of quitting, and all the GCBTW has to say is "you deserved it lmao".
