While OP started this thread in his usual manner, it's true that this game could use better (subjective, I know) male character body types both in character creation but also in the main cast.
Even when the only comparison is previous entries in the franchise, FFXIV is an outlier. For a series known for their pretty boys, most installments had at least one buff/traditionally manly character in its playable roster.

Which is why I'm waiting for one of our new characters to travel with to be a Hrothgar.

While I'd love that, they did have the chance to introduce someone like that for years with a Roegadyn character. And the only major one that could have gone along with us got relegated to "dead".

It'd certainly stir up the dynamic though. Having someone be the big bro of the group like ronibosch said. But. Square needs to understand the group they have and the dynamics they have, had and ceased to have.

Currently the only major Hrothgar we have is Runar. We have other "important" Hrothgar, enough to have relevance in the story such as Marsak, Bajsaljen, or directly in the MSQ with Magnus... but those got shunted over to the side too easily. The only one that hasn't was Runar, to which I ask. The only character with ties to Runar is Y'shtola. She does keep referring to him as her main motivation to seek a way to traverse the shards. That said, when was the last time she referred to him, directly, by name?
