Playing an expansion as current content has been a lacklustre MMO experience

It's a theme park. There are different experiences for different people. That they have so many different ways to play is something that draws people in.

Issue is a MMORPG is supposed to be a coherent whole. Like the new branching dungeon that has decent difficulty is too disconnected from the remainder of the game, hence there is no motivation to actually rise to the challenge.

See, comments like this are what lose you all credibility. People can debate things like the quality of the EW story, the state of various classes or roles, and so on, but nobody in their right honest mind tries to claim there isn't much to do in FFXIV. If nothing else, the one thing practically anyone can agree on is that there is a huge amount of available side content in FFXIV, from FATEs to Sightseeing to Relics to Gold Saucer (which itself contains about a half-dozen solid activities) to (and the list goes on). Trying to act as if there's little to do in the game just makes you out to be a pointless troll.

There is a lot to do in FFXIV but also a very large amount of very poor quality content gameplay wise.

Se needs to understand that its not because they implement some discount version of stuff you can find on other game (like island sanctuary is a discount version of animal crossing) that it will make ppl happy.

Thats a balance, and (skill) issue tbh. I'm casual PvP'd in crab gear and had zero problems winning and surviving.

Just want to point out I've leveled crafting on several characters in WoW and have gotten them to the point I could make gear for myself within, oh, about a day or two generally. Good luck doing that as a new player in FF lmao

Is not game that is change. Is you. If the vanilla heavenward is releasing tomorrow you would be excite at the fate for the day. And then you realizing shocker truth. Old game is more easy than you remembering. Rotation is more easy than you remembering. Because you have training the game for the many long year. WoW boomer is know this now in the vanilla make.

I don't know what further connection there is to be made. Perhaps you need to look over the story again. Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean by a disconnect.
