Its actually because of this fact that I let go of the never-ending rat race for BiS and honestly for me I feel so much better enjoying this game.

I still set easily attainable ilv goals with getting tomestone gear and or crafted gear but thats as far as Ill go with obtaining power. This game to me means a lot more than whats the best and I try to tackle one thing at a time. Its really FFXIV's biggest strength and greatest weakness.

However I will say this, glam is still the true endgame and the weapons and armor you get from savage are appealing enough to want to get them. However, Ill have to wait a few expansions before I decide on collecting those pieces for my wardrobe with unsyncing.

BiS may pass but the shiny number on fflogs remains.

When I tried Savage - my first and only shot at endgame content in an MMO - I tried it not for the promise of rewards but for the experience of playing with a circle of friends, progression, learning tight mechanics and for the thrill. I gave up after my static disbanded and things didn't work out with the second one. Was never about rewards for me, and still wouldn't have been if it came with a promise of something super shiny like a minion/mount.

To be rewarded with amazing prizes just because you were playing in a certain time period is somewhat lame... and touting WoW as a game which provides rewards even at LFR is laughable because it's the same game that locked away a Slime Cat mount from LFR and kept it at Normal and above versions of the Raids just this year. LFR, Normal, Heroic and Mythic all have varying appearances, so it's really dependent on the item if it's accessible or not.

WoW does a lot of that, and will equally turn around and give away stuff for free a decade later on their whim so IDK, they're not consistent with that.

My partner is a sweaty hardcore raider. I'm the opposite and more casual.
To him, it's the challenge, solving mechanics and optimizing the shit out of everything in the first week, then get bis and parse 99. Glam is a plus. He does not care for mounts. He doesn't even roll on them.

To me, the rewards at the end is an incentive for trying a content. Maybe I'll do it next week, maybe next year. I do not have a lot of time to play each day so I'm fine getting those shiny rewards later. I do enjoy the prog experience with a static tho. Not touching Savage at the moment but I do plan on doing it around the end of expansion like I did with Eden.

Among the reasons I'm not interested doing savage while it is current is this as well. Next tier drop and your BiS is replaced with crafted pentameld sets. Even if I do actively raid savage, I don't see the point trying to farm it before the tier ends. Of course, BiS gearing is irrelevant to me but maybe not to those who gets the kick of seeing high parse on their log (my partner lol).

Yeah, I washed my hands of it back during HW. No point chasing a carrot that'll already be chewed down to the nub by the time you get a hold of it, and dedicating myself to a static is entirely antithetical to my purpose for playing games in the first place. Grab whatever welfare prog gear is being handed out and/or craft whatever's craftable, and call it a day.

Gear is just a bonus. The people who need the gear for ultimate probably have statics and will get their BiS in 8 weeks or so. Beyond that, it doesn't even look that different from the normal mode gear everyone is walking around with. The mount, however, is something people can't have unless they do the content. It is the main reason why I do savage.

Savages rewards are just a meaning to parse high and watch the 99% of FF player base from above.

Seriously, the way savage mode is build now it’s totally pointless.

Not only the gear you drop become useless after the release of the next tier; new contents released don’t require an high iLv nor more than two braincells to clear them.
I noticed some days ago, the first EW dungeon is set for a 500 ilv. 500 ilv is what Augmented Crystarium was along the Eden Verse Tier, patch 5.2/5.3.
So basically 630 ilv is good for what will be the first dungeon of 7.0.
    You can stop paying.

At the end of the day the only rewards worth in savages is to get BiS asap, and then parsing, min maxing your skills, maybe trying different jobs and get your 99… but I kindly not raccomend to do so….it’s when you start knowing how to play this game that all the magics, the good memories, the joy you felt before fade away and you are left alone with the reality that this game is shit to be sold.

    Ignorance is a blessing.

Disclaimer: it’s my pov of the game.

Well, isn’t there another ultimate coming in a month or so? I’m sure the savage gear is worth it then? I don’t do ultimate myself so for me gear is just a way to make new content easier when it comes out or for glamour. That’s pretty much it. Most rewards are just glam to me really. If I don’t like the way the gear looks, I just skip it. For people who do ultimates though, I’m sure the savage gear is worth it.

I've raided tiers where we started late and didn't finish until the tomestone upgrade items were available via hunt marks or 24-man weeklies. It still felt "rewarding" but not for the gear. It was nice to get the clear, even if we had gear that was 10-20 iLvls above the elite raiders that cleared it in Week 1.

I've learned over time that if the reward is the gear, then many players will be disappointed. All that shiny gear turns into GC seal fodder and you are back to square one every 9 months or so.
