Back in 2013 the best strat for the second boss in Brayflox was to sleep the drake add. The tank could then grab it without it chasing Brayflox around in circles.
It was also good on the big stun-to-skip guy in the old castrum.
Still has some uses when the tank is new and sprouty, as sleep does interrupt a cast. That last mob just before the final boss in Sirensong Sea is a good one to sleep-break the cast if your squishy and undergeared tank isn't up to interrupting or interrupts the wrong one of the two.

I try if the tank dies in a dungeon, but the other DPS is usually frantically spamming AoEs so it doesn't accomplish much.
I will while doing lower level open world content solo for convenience. "Go collect an egg and bring it back to me". Sleep mobs around the egg. Grab egg and run away. At higher levels with the improved toolkit, it usually just as easy to kill stuff up front than Sleep it.
It's rather pointless in a group, or even solo duties with NPCs. The Sleep always ends up being broken early.

There's absolutely no normal scenario where we need Sleep in this game. The problem with Sleep is that we've always used aoe and it just wakes them up. There is no reason not to just aoe them. We don't have boss enemies mixed in with trash that wipe us if they aren't slept and need fighting in isolation. The only elite marks we have are hunts.
The only time I ever saw Sleep useful was when we had no healer. We were doing the dungeon without one. I was on Paladin and my heals were barely enough in this particular dungeon, so Sleep was used to prevent some of them attacking.
In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

Back in the ARR days and even HW (SB too maybe?), particularly in the early levels... (Think Sastatha - Brayflox if I remember correctly) aggro was rather clunky to handle. Really powerful AOE used to steal aggro from the Tank, so you'd see BLM doing the OG Flare and grab the entire pack of mobs. I remember when playing as a tank having to ask to "Please attack my target" when running low level dungeons. Sleep made it easier to kill one enemy at a time and not have to deal with the damage from the whole pull. Also, the second boss in Brayflox? You could (still can I think) put either drake to sleep and focus the other one, because they used to hurt quite bad for their level back then.
Nowadays? I don't think most people even know Sleep exists.
Fun fact that my FC found out while doing Vanaspati. You know how before the final boss, there's a pull on a really tight ledge that then breaks and gives way to the final trash pull? And how the largest guy there has a hard-hitting cast that needs to be interrupted? Well, if your tank refuses to kick it in the groin like they should be doing, you can cast Sleep on it. Even if the DPS use their AoE skills and wake the mob up, Sleep will interrupt the cast
It's unnecessary and convoluted, sure, but it was hilarious when we found out that we could just put it to sleep for exactly 0.1 seconds.
I honestly keep forgetting the ability exists.

Solo duties, yeh. In parties nah since everyone be waking them up with aoes lol..unless it's just the blm and healers alone to get away to recover.

Might be used by solo PotDers a bunch.
