Checking around online feedback and while I still dont personally cant form credible opinions regarding the matter in defense for the recent changes, the poster still gave some plausible theories behind SE's decisions.

Yeah nvm, Square'd be screwed if they hadn't done this. And in retrospect, it does harm us, but it also prevents a bigger monster from forming. Which is why the more expensive items(ish) are still available for purchase; the people who hijacked the accounts and went on a fraudulent shopping spree won't aim for those large prices, so this neuters their influence.

I feel stupid for completely forgetting that recent account hijacking incident. I knew in the back of my mind, that business wasnt still not fully resolved on their end. So while I still believe this decision ultimately sucks for the community, its probably their safest bet for hopefully at least the time being.

It just doesnt make sense from a business standpoint otherwise why they'd shoot themselves in the foot in that regard.

Yes, this really sucks. It was fun to give codes to people. Sometimes I even bought codes for strangers, something like event-emotes and stuff, just to make them a little joy. Now this is impossible. And for what? For some criminals, now the whole communtity gets bashed. Not good, in my opionen.

And I also think that there should not even exist in-game codes from merchandise or region locked events. That also sucks in general. It splits us in rich and poor, and divides us with rl country borders.

Isn't this ONE game with one big community? So why are there region locked things?
Most people also do not want these super expensive figures. They just want the emote-code that comes along with it, and pay a silly amount of money for this, and then try to sell the figure to get some money back.

This lead to the change for the friendslist thing probably, but nothing to do with not being able to gift certain items at all.

SE's stated reason for blocking items like minions, emotes, etc. is because they are one time use. They just don't care enough to make a way to detect if someone already has an item or not and prevent you from buying it for them.

Literally that simple. SE taking the easiest approach instead of developing a proper solution. Which is true for most problems in this game.

There's a bigger picture here that kind of needs to be looked at. If there's a better solution then fair enough but this was probably the quickest way to find a fix while they work on a longterm solution. Sorry some people who wanted to steal people's information ruined it for everyone for now.

yeah, I think we have to give SE the benefit of the doubt. Despite us memeing companies making brain haired decisions, when it usually involves money, there HAS to be some actual reason for their doing so

This wasn't the reason given by SE and it has no logic to it. If what you're saying is true, they would just turn off gifting period, not only on specific items.

I mean, they're literally telling us the only reason we can't gift mounts, minions, and emotes with the new change is because they're single use. I dunno why people are trying to say it's about anything else when they were pretty clear on why both this and the friends list change was implemented.
