Lol ngl I wheezed at "actually roleplay" cause I know someone's gonna get offended that them standing around afk in a venue isn't roleplay. XDI use shout chat for in game events, Hunt Trains, requests for rez in Bozja, and chatting with a few people in city states. I also like to actually Roleplay so I'd use the Other section of PF to find RP venues originally, before it got flooded by Nightclub ads, or, if I post an RP ad for my FC, it gets buried under the Nightclub Ad Spam. I am not making a mountain here, I am legitimately frustrated.
"Stop using an in game function so you don't have to see these very annoying shouts."
Shouldn't have to avoid a major chat function in the first place, full stop. There are very easy, actual solutions to this but it requires Square to actually do something about it.
1. New chat type dedicated to stuff like venue ads. Separate from shout.
2. An RP LFG menu for posting venues and those seeking to do non-venue RP.
On point 2, non-venue RP exists and this game does a horrid job of supporting it. The most I can do is add it to my adventure plate saying something like "open to non-erp RP, feel free to message me", which is not going to be seen by anyone actually interested. An RP LFG menu would go a long way to supporting RP in general, and filtering annoying venue spammers out of shout chat.
I mean... I've been to a handful of these RP venues... in my experience (anecdotal experience mind you) everyone just stands around emote spamming, socializing, and bard performing/watching. The "staff" will occasionally enter in character mode but they break character all the time. Rarely, one or two non-staff will actually come in and RP either privately or in /s. There's been very little RP actually going on in these venues, they are more of themed social hours. Again, anecdotal experience so take that as you may.

Have shout chat in a different tab and ignore it in large cities. You could also just ignore it like everyone else? And scroll past in PF. If you are on aether or primal, there are not that many ads. Maybe 2 pages of total rp ads on the busiest night, and 1/2 are not night clubs. Crystal maybe different but its crystal. And if you are using shout to chat in a city. Please dont. No one is shouting nightclub ads in bozja etc and Ive never seen one during a hunt train either. I swap to my shout tab for those.
Actual solutions- put your shout chat in a different tab and dont look at it in major cities.
Cool, and just deal with it when the venue ads appear in non-city states (which they do). Your solution isn't an actual solution, and trying to say it is as opposed to other solutions posted in this thread is laughable.
Yes you can "ignore it", or, even better, Square can make a dedicated place for it! Wow!

How glib of you to assume that nightclub ads post in just the cities. They go everywhere because some are done by bots.
I was on Faerie a few days ago helping a friend through MSQ, and there was a shout ad in SOUTHERN THANALAN.
Southern Thanalan, which has... the Amalija Tribe quests?
I'm not saying you can't enjoy these Nightclubs, that was never the point of my post. My post was a venting of frustration about Venues overtaking shoutchat and PF's other tab, and some stuff that skirts ToS.
I don't want Nightclubs Banned, as much as I dislike them, I want them reigned in so other places have a place to go.
When people unironically believe "venues" are a legitimate use of in-game communication functions. Kek.
Dude, most of those "venues" don't just break TOS, they violate it. Heck, a lot of what goes on at them (gambling, for example) isn't just against TOS, it's against the law in many countries.

What's the alternative? Politics? That one I personally would not mind but it can get heated quickly haha. Be happy that people even use the in game chat function here. It's not like the club spam makes you unable to read other things from the chat
Explain this please? I'm really curious.
And on another note, I don't know what the solution is here really. Unless they put a timer on shouts and heavily moderate shouts/PF, people are just going to get around it.
If anything, I'd say if you actually wanted to make a change then I'd recommend copying them. Make the problem so bad that SE eventually has to respond. Either you'll force yourself and other like minded players out of the game and make the game more centered around these events or... you'll make people that are new to the game complain. Eventually something will be done though.

It's actually easy to miss stuff in the three separate shouts most Venues make because all shout chat is the same color, thus making it easy to miss if a nightclub posts right after they do.
As for the Alternative? Shouts for in game fun runs, like All Tank Alliance Raids? Hunt Trains? Drip Checks? Casual chat that everyone in zone can partake in?
