I agree with your main point, but I get confused when people refer to FFXI as being a hardcore-focused game.
FFXI provided a decent challenge that was readily available to the average player, which I think is being confused for "hardcore" far too often on the internet.
Yeah I definitely agree, the issue goes both ways.
I think that we should be able to look at FFXI for ideas and suggestions, and people shouldn't immediately cry "no copy/paste!" just because we are inspired by FFXI. But I also think that just because we liked things in FFXI doesn't mean they will work well in FFXIV exactly how they were.
It's important to find a balance between what we like and what works best for everyone.

Considering you could do almost nothing worthwhile in a small amount of time and/or without a party, I'm not so sure I agree with your statement.
Wait, I'm wrong. You could stand around in Jeuno for several hours browsing the AH, so there was that.
Well to stray away from the FFXI paradigm, SE must take all elements that they took from FFXI, starting with the Races they obviously C&P'd (i know the looks may be a tad different but its blatantly obvious where they got the races from). Also take away the new jobs, again something else they took from FFXI (yes they might be in other games but if we are gonna be not like FFXI then they need to go as well) Same for crafting, as well as other things. If you want people to stop talking about it being like FFXI and making it more like FFXI then you must make the devs stop implementing FFXI elements.
And if bothers you so much that you have to make a thread about this, I mean then stop playing, its obviously effecting your real life for you to be making a thread about the subject lol. The games gonna be how its gonna be take it or leave it, just stop crying about people wanting the game to be like its predecessor which by the way was a huge success (it has died down over the years but thats because of the people complaining how hard it was and how long it took to level).
SO then why would you say what you said? The OP is not asking to make this FFXI-2. They want people to have an open mind about ideas... the can pull ideas from other games and make them better for this game I see no problem at all with that.i read the post, its about how people say that they like the things from XI and how they would like them to be in xiv and the OP is trying to say to have an open mind for the changes in XIV, to embrace different things instead if copy pasting stuff from the older game.
you cats always insinuate the meanest things i swear
Also why not offer discussion instead of just saying this is FFXIV not FFXI-2... give more thoughts and opinions rather then simply op for the attack...
The cat is bemused =-.-=
Umm dont forget the suicide lvl1 mule runs to Jeuno (those were actually pretty fun lol)
I'm assuming you started playing in the later years. Unless you had no job, and played 24/7 FFXI was a challenge just in the means of time constraints, let alone skill.
Between obtaining the Elite gear, having high levels and crafts, being able to kill the upper echelon of Notorious Monsters. Those options were not readily available to average players. You might be talking about Limbus, or public dynamis shells.
FFXI was indeed challenging, and alot of content was not readily available to the average player. (This is pre 75+ level cap)
Bring Quality Notorious Monsters to FFXIV!

I pretty much agree. I think most of us here ARE here because we played XI at one point and have at least SOME fond memories of it. There were good things and there were bad things, for each and every individual person. And those things may not be classified the same way depending on who you ask.Yeah I definitely agree, the issue goes both ways.

The problem is that gamers are naturally very opinionated about what we enjoy in games. That gets in the way more often than not and that's why things get heated.
