What upsets me the most about this is it literally has zero customization, unless you count animals.
You may think it does at first, but by level 7 literally every person will have 1 of each landmark, 3 workshops, and 2 granaries.
And you cannot decorate literally anything.
They could have helped with the housing crisis if they had bothered to even let you put furniture down in your little cabin, if only slightly, or even in the hideaway area in general. But no. No customization at all.
Just a baffling decision, really.
And I won't even get into how all the systems of island sancturies are akin to a mobile game...
Methinks you don't understand what they are referring to.

I like IS! It has it's flaws but I enjoy the content.![]()
I mean...fair enough, I get the point was to be a chilling, casual farming sim to get your stuff and that's it, and i think it does a good job on that. That was the whole point of it though. They already said it wasn't going to be instanced housing. They also said it was mostly just relaxing casual content. They designed it so you didn't have to baby sit the island and could just chill there. They've also said they're going to update it every couple major patches so we don't even know what they're going to do with it. I think they were waiting on feedback to figure out where to go from here.
That being said if it's not your cup of tea, then that's fine. Grind for the mounts or glam you want then forget it. There's plenty of other content in the game. As for people saying they wasted resources on this, I suspect we only got this because they reused some elements developed for harvestella, their upcoming FF/Harvest moon style game. They just tweaked it for FFXIV.
...but then why not just buy Harvest Moon instead? Or Stardew Valley. For the price of one month's subcription you can get a far superior farming simulator game, as well as combat, and pretty much everything else other games do, without the needless time gating. And if you got a switch it's even portable, since it's the fixation of today's gaming world!
I mean it's not bad, I take this over Eureka where I legitimately cried in frustration (same in the other one), but they could've at least made it more fun or just different, maybe implement some fun minigames when doing cropping or harvesting, I dunno just...something?. As it is, it feels like a mobile version of a farming sim. But you have a subscription on it.
And even though they said it wasn't going to be instanced housing, they are causing instanced housing to have issues because of the busy times. They can add instanced islands but no instance housing..."sigh" whatever, it just feels cheaply made in general and I'm not going to complain much further. I'll do what I came for and leave.
At least I can see this having more staying power than Eureka and...the other one. I can never type it right.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's dead content, Yoshi-P said it was about doing it at your leisure, even if most of us rush it in grind no brain mode.It is dead end content with no real meaning or progression or lasting impacts on the game.
You go around clicking 1 node at a time for hours on end, Even upgrading your Tools to a higher tier doesn't help gathering.
You fill out your supply sheet for 2 weeks and then visit it once per day to harvest crops, tend to animals and send followers out on missions (Lmao garrisons anyone).
Gameplay wise, some people will enjoy this, i won't deny that. Personally, i find this incredibly boring when there is already a better Gathering/Crafting system in the game tied to actual progression.
Will i continue doing island sanctuary? yes, but only checking it once per day until i get bored of doing even that.
Daily 'Chores' are something i try to escape from in MMO's, The only good thing is i can drop it at any point and not have it affect my characters progression.
Once well evolved, it allows you to have 4 unique mounts including a motorbike, crafting materials & others for not much, but you have to go through the Workshop management.
You only need the minimum amount of harvesting to let it happen.
All that's missing is that they remove the 30 min AFK limit due to congestion.
Without having to grind, you earn a lot of Xp via livestocks, crops, upgrade building and workshop on a daily basis. By upgrading, it brings in more scarce resources and the sales bring in more.
I grinded as a light farm and it's obvious that it wasn't planned that way.
On the other hand, Yoshi-P said it's not for everyone, you're probably not the target player, so let's calm down.

I personally love Island Sanctuary and am satisfied it is a nice vibe chilling out on my island, feature light and a great little side distraction. More stuff will come out and add to it I am sure. Totally get other people want more functionality or housing capability.
I really like the Island. It's nice sidecontent with cool rewards and has potential to grow much bigger.
The expectations of some people are just muuuuch too high. It's sidecontent, and not a 'full farming simulator game' inside a game, or housing replacement.
They work on a lot of stuff at the moment and they are just people, too. Content comes not magical from the air. : )
Let's see how the Island will evolve. I am looking forward to it. : 3

I'm not interested at all in that sanctuary... Instead of adding content that will be forgotten when they get bored of updating it they could invest that time and money in adding more challenging battle systems, savages are 4 bosses every 2 patches and ultimate is a single boss every year... Raiders would like to have more content to play, or atleast i do. I've thought many times that alliances could have a "savage" mode for full parties for example. I'm sure there are more and better examples for that.
I think sanctuary will be forgotten by the community and the developers, just like many other features already... That's a waste of time and money. I respect who like it but lets be honest you will get bored of it in a short time.

Thats true, IS is such a waste of time. They should've added more harder content because as we all know by now, a true MMO lives or dies by the hardcore community rather than catering to the everyday casual player. After all just look at WoW and how many people are happy about running Mythic+ dungeons and rai-......I'm not interested at all in that sanctuary...
