It's not. It's actual fact. It's been happening for years even before FFXIV was an idea. Some people sub for a month to do the patch content. Others go for a full expansion cycle.
I'm not sure what you're saying. Are you saying that those that sub for a full expansion cycle wouldn't sub if time-gating wasn't a thing? And that increasing time-gating will make those that only sub for a month sub for longer?
hence why it needs to end. Let us get our gear within a week not 4 months. Why have multiple classes but take so long to gear it up for one. It is ancient and needs to be put to rest. No more weekly caps, no more rest cycles, no more once a week
I'm saying people come in and play for a month or two at expansion release and then disappear til the next one.
Multiple classes/jobs are to give players options. It's not mandatory for someone to level every single job nor gear it to the max.
Let's say you did get all your gear within a week. What would you do after that? If the answer is take a break until the next content release with new gear, what is the point of getting the gear in the first place since you wouldn't be using it?
MMOs are always going to have time gated content if for no other reason than to ensure that players who aren't able to play when new content is released will still be able to find others to play with. If 95% of players got their gear week one and quit playing, what would the other 5% do when they're finally able to play a month later?
You could always choose not to play games with time gated rewards if that bothers you so much - and if you can find one you'll enjoy. Even RNG ends up a form of time gating.
Same Can Be said of statics or those who get lucky with drops.
if they don't keep doing the content itself. they'll just drop the content and not use the gear.
Its pointless to use that as an argument for Timegating.
what they need is something else, which many have offered solutions.
[even one that gives you benefit for waiting.]
but no. overlook em.
The timegating is just like any other mobile game. Except this content is treated as something innovative when it literally is just mobile game mechs put into an mmo with a shiny new paint.
I’ve missed several days of gaining no crowiles and still managed to get to rank 10 casually. Also if I wanted to walk around and enjoy some scenery in game I’d just go to the ARR areas because there’s far more detail and wonder put into those maps that isn’t seen anywhere else.
Nobody ever said this was innovative. A bunch of us saw the mobile game coming a mile away, while everyone was hoping for Genshin, Stardew et al. Now they complain that it feels like a mobile game.
Rest cycles allow you time to acquire more rare mats both animal droppings and garden mats for use during the 5 day work cycle. Most of the high crowilies manufacturing items needs these. Personally I've got 36k+ on all my Islands and two days left in my work week and am happy to have 2 days off.
Time gated content is pretty standard fare not just for Island but for just about everything.

I don't understand it either but it is what it is...
