Excessive maintenance is starting to piss off the casual, non-raiding players.

I'm a hardcore player and I raid, therefore my opinion on the matter holds no value.
However I have some friends who don't raid or play as often as I do

We have had in the last 3 weeks, 3 maintenance periods, and it started to affect those casual players too.
They don't play every day like I do but they also have goals they want to accomplish
For example, one of my friends missed out on getting his island bike mount because he couldn't retrieve granary materials or animal droppings in time to start the new cycle this week due to last week's maintenance.

I do not believe this is a good idea.
It is acceptable to fuck over raiders since they are not worth anything to the game, but pissing off the casual, paying audience is going to paint a really bad picture of the game to them.

I think that the least they could do would be to refund us or add 1 extra day of play to each maintenance because it prevents us from playing while we pay and since the servers are always full it wastes a lot of time and it's tiring when you had a hard day at work and just want to play 2 hours before going to sleep...

Many MMOs have a maintenance period once a week just for rebooting the servers. That's once a week, every single week.

The MMO I played (and quit playing) before I discovered FFXIV did this. Every Thursday, around four hours, without fail. And that was the routine maintaince. It also occasionally had 'emergency' maintainance which meant the servers would be down two or three times a week for more than four hours at a time.

No it's not.

I'd be more irritated at the game going down for longer than 24 hours because they have to fix an issue that they went "hmmm we can just let this game breaking bug go for a while right?" to instead of just taking the game down for a few hours to hotfix and test before bringing the servers back up. A minor inconvenience is expected, longer than that is not because someone cried on the forums that they didn't get their bike on the day they expected it. If they hadn't pulled servers down when fishing in Outer La Noscea crashed the servers entirely it likely would have pooled into a much bigger problem. Yeah sure they fixed other things in that patch, but I'm pretty sure that was the worst of it. "But it wasn't fixed then--" no, it was addressed during routine maint and not a hotfix, but they put a stopgap measure in place so someone deciding to be a butt wouldn't go to Outer La Noscea and fish to troll people until they could fix it completely in that hotfix.

The only time they give extra playtime is when the servers are down for longer than 24 hours - when they added new worlds to each DC before adding new DCs, the servers had to be taken down for a period of like 48+ hours, we got free time for that. During EW I'm sure everyone knows we got a full 2 weeks or something of playtime because of how congested the servers were. Otherwise, straight from what you agreed to in the User Agreement:

5. INTERRUPTION TO THE SERVICE
From time to time, in order to provide our customers with the optimal gaming experience, it is necessary for Square Enix to conduct routine maintenance on the computers and/or servers that support the Game. During these times, access to the Game or support services may be interrupted. Access may also be temporarily suspended in whole or in part, without notice, due to emergency repairs, fire, flood, explosion, war, strike, embargo, governmental action or failure to act, the act of any civil or military authority, act of God, or by any other causes beyond Square Enix's control, or any other reasons for which Square Enix, in its sole discretion, deems that temporary suspension is necessary. You acknowledge that disruptions of service may occur and waive any causes of action against Square Enix in any way arising from or related to any such disruptions of service.

Play something else for the duration of maint. Most casual players are that reasonable. I have plenty of other things I can do for that 8 hour period. As to the poster above you I quoted, you agreed to planned and unplanned downtime when you signed up and hit that "Agree" button, and so did your friends.
