That link now has me confused, as there is no way Laura as a 30 Archer would have been a Twelvesblade. Maybe my account is glitched.

I'm not in agreement for adding the legacy tattoo to the cash shop, but I do have to say this as a player who is only NOW somewhat financially capable of paying a sub and continuing to support the game- some of us just had no option. We couldn't build computers to support the game, nor have the time to play it even if we wanted to. Sure, it sucks that we missed out on a lot of legacy things, but let's also bear in mind that despite wanting to, we might have not even had the means to own it. (I was overseas and the game was never released there)

So honestly, there are a lot of factors that could have contributed to people who wanted to play not being able to. To call everyone a bandwagoner is just downright insulting to the amount of money and time we are putting into the game at all.

As a sidenote, anyone have a picture on how the legacy tattoo looks on au ra males and females?

You have the potential to become a hero, but you are not one yet. Your character certainly existed during 1.0 (unless everyone's born full-grown somehow), but you were not part of the events of fighting the Garleans, defeating Van Darnus or attempting to stop Dalamud. Your character would have been like others in the world who existed, but weren't directly involved in the conflict. During the events of 1.x, future 2.0 characters would have been off elsewhere, doing other things, living their pre-Adventurer lives. This is all pretty well implied by the way a 2.0 character is introduced to the game/world. Thus, they would not have the Mark, because they were not a part of any of the events that it symbolizes.

Conversely, 1.0 players are returning to Eorzea. They were involved with the conflict. They did do their part - to whatever extent - to try and stop the Garleans and otherwise forestall the events that ultimately took place. Symbolically (ie. even if the player wasn't actually logged in during the events), they were there on the Carteneau flats when the shit hit the fan and were ported away by Louisoix. Thus, upon returning to Eorzea with 2.0, they had the mark. That you've returned to Eorzea and aren't just arriving also plays out in all the "you look familiar" bits, that your name is already in the ledger at your chosen Adventurer's Guild, etc. People may not remember you, due to the kind of "amnesia"... but you were one of the heroes they are all straining to remember nonetheless.
Some players like to pretend that's the case, and if it works for your RP, go ahead. But you're confusing a fanon story that players have come up with with the canon story that the game itself presents.

The game, as it's presented to 2.0 players, starts with our character arriving at one of the Eorzean city-states not knowing his/her own past. The amnesia that prevents others from remembering who the Warriors of Light were is more pronounced in us, preventing us from remembering the events of the Calamity at all, which is why those past events need to be explained to us. (This is how the game accounts for needing all the exposition that's done in the opening few quests.) As the game progresses, some of the NPCs start to notice how we remind them of the Warriors of Light, a few even speculating that maybe we are them, until eventually that speculation is confirmed when we're recognized.

There are differences in the story between characters who played 1.0 and those who didn't, but they're mainly differences in the amount of detail we have. 2.0 characters, though recognized by a few others, are still affected by amnesia themselves, and never get any more details about what happened during the Calamity besides what NPCs tell us about it at the beginning. We know we were the Warriors of Light who fought at Carteneau attempting to stop Dalamud, and who subsequently disappeared, but we get few very details about how that happened. All such details are reserved for legacy players who were around to play through that part. At least up through the end of the 2.0 story, Van Darnus hasn't been mentioned by name, so really just isn't part of the story. (I've heard that more comes up about him in Coil, but haven't played that part yet, so can't speak to how that influences things.)

I think the real question is, who cares? It's not like the underlying story is any different for 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, etc players. Hell, given the possible life-expectancy of this game, no one is going to give 2 sh!ts about 1.0 characters anyway once we're in patch 6.0 10 years from now, because the amount of legacy players will never increase. In 10 years, odds are, they will account for <5% of the total game population (accounting for people quitting). By then, all the legacy perks will be meaningless anyway so it won't matter.

The only thing that SE could do to please all of you is for them to have special tattoo designs based on which expansion each character was created in. 1.0 design, 2.0 design, 3.0 design ... X.0 Design. That's the only way you could possibly please as many people as possible and minimize the backlash. Other then that, this thread is pointless.

I think it would be a good idea to have a new tattoo design that gives 2.0 characters a tattoo and adds onto the one from 1.0, but it doesn't make any sense to give 2.0+ players a 1.0 tattoo.

People should try to be more reasonable with requests.

A thread asking for a tattoo for completing the events of 2.55 (before it was released) ended up being bombarded many months back by legacy players. The tl;dr of it is: "you can't have a tattoo even if it's not Legacy tattoo because only Legacy deserve a tattoo"

So I find it quite ironic how the tone has changed since then

I have it and it looks the same as it does on any other race, no change.

As for adding the Legacy tattoo to the Mog Station -

Sorry I can't agree with this, if people did not play 1.0 and receive Legacy though that then it should not be available to them. It was tied to 1.0, and it should stay that way - I don't see the reason why people need that specific tattoo if they were not a part of what it came from.

Alternatively, I think it would be better if we all got special tattoos depending where we started in FFXIV.

For me its Stormblood, Stormblood special tattoo would be cool.
