Because you can within a broken system doesn't mean its not broken.
do you REALLY? it is easy to make high level gear items with Pactmaker, which is master 9. the crafting requirements are craftsmanship 3240 and control 3130.

so, are you saying you cant make yourself that gear using tome gear? or that you never thought of making it because you had tome gear?

what are your stats at with tome gear?

I'm gonna skip reading all your whining and say no it is not. The barrier is too low and allows every tom/dick/harry to be able to craft w/e they like. Crafting used to be a niche thing you can make a fair decent amount of gil with. Now gear/food/pots prices tank within days. You're clearly just too lazy to work for the extremely low barrier gear/stat level required

It sounds to me like you jumped right in without gathering some information first and then got tripped by the requirements and how to meet them.

First off: no, you don't need to craft the highend recipes to make money. That's a myth and it needs to die.
I made roughly 40mil within 2 days after patch release and I didn't touch a single mastercraft recipe. Material, syrups, gatherer food, some basic housing item precrafts, HQ lumbers/ ingots etc. sold like hot cakes and you can macro-craft them in HQ in ShB scrip gear.
There are lot more markets to exploit but you need to think outside the "highest recipe = beeeeg money" box.

Secondly, you don't need pentamelds to craft the current master recipes.
They help to reliably macro-craft everything in HQ but you can easily substitute pentamelds with more time by hand-crafting everything and going for as many HQ precrafts as possible. Switching specialist around is also an option for higher stats and Heart and Soul.
I don't have full pentamelds (ignored the tools) and I need 2 HQ precrafts with Popotos (very cheap buff food) for macro-crafting them reliably in HQ. So now add handcrafting and using procs, specialist actions, better food and syrup and more HQ precrafts to that and you can craft the new gear in Pactmaker with budget melds. And crafting the Pactmaker itself isn't difficult either. Get your accessories first, meld everything, use food, syrup as necessary and go for handcrafting as many HQ precrafts as you can and then handcraft the left side.

And lastly, you don't need to spend any gil on melding. You can just spam collectables in addition to grabbing scrips from custom deliveries and using lower ilvl gear with trash pentas (low level tenacity, det, piety etc) for faster spiritbond while spamming them also yields a ton of extra materia from spiritbond. I didn't spend a single gil on my melds. It was all from spiritbonding and collectables.

Crafting is currently the easiest and fastest it's ever been but it does require researching a bit. But there are many resources available, try teamcraft, balance discord and garlond tools.

It's not so much skill as it is understanding the system as a whole. There are various resources spread out across the entire game to acquire materia, or things to get materia. Scrips from Collectibles (Rarified Happiness Juice and Rarified Sykon Bavarois are easiest, excepting the Ovibos Milk needed for the latter the mats are simple), Beast Tribes, and Custom Deliveries are by far the best methods. Gil is for Glams is my rule. And on the topic of Gil, don't neglect your Leves! CUL at 90 with basic gear and Tsai tou Vounou turned in at Old Sharlayan is the long game. Not as effective as the old Coffee Biscuits but still worth the time investment especially with such basic mats (Only one timed node, Lemonettes). Leave the MB to the bots. Teas are my base income, MB is a bonus when I hit it right. Hopefully some of this is helpful, and I do agree that it can be an uphill slog and there are totally faults to the system but it is possible if you have the time and patience!

I'm just gonna call out this bull$hit. You need exactly one (1) food and FOUR (4) materia to reach 3700 Craftsmanship even with the most hobo set I can think of.

I have been doing this sort of thing and really enjoying it but I want to be able to craft my own gear so I can help my friends and feel like I am all geared up and stuff. I want to earn my own power before doing that content not have to do that content relying on everyone else to get me there. Also no blacksmith is "simple" we can use our hammers to crack some heads if need be. (Not in game mechanically of course, just.. you know, in attitude.)

I can't take the theread/title seriously. Crafting is the most accessible it has ever been. I dislike the state crafting is at. I miss the ARR days of crafting.

As actually helpful as this is (I was wondering myself on the new Scrip set) you could have totally spun this post another way and not come off as combative. Yes the OP is frustrated and maybe not understanding the system as a whole we get that. I mean, I've been accused of being toxic a lot but c'mon...we should take the path less travelled once and a while..

Full pentamelded optimized gear is insanely expensive to get, and I have never done it. I mean, you have to meld a lot, but nowhere near that insane requirements.

My non-specialist crafters stand right now at 3580 crafting and I can make the ilvl610 HQ gear with near 100% success. It's all thanks to preparing the appropriate buff foods and fine-tuning my own macros.

Figuring all that out and achieving my goal despite the insane 3700 requirement was the most fun I've had on this game in a while.
