Island Sanctuaries demonstrates unhealthy play styles that's alarming!

Update: So after hearing one FF14 content creator uploaded a video Friday morning, literally just 72 to 78 hours of the patch dropping...they displayed how they were able to farm 9,739 nodes to reach rank 10.

That means if charitable, gathering a node every 5-10 seconds which means 180-230 nodes an hour for a grand total of 45-55 hours of gathering. And I expect those will say about the mud packs path they follow yet even those run out to the point where you have to gather none mud/rocks near the river and then run back to the original starting point hence 5 to 10 seconds between each node.

Now the only possibility for someone to be able to farm that many nodes within that time frame which would be 45-55 hours out of 72-78 is one of three possibilities:
    1. This person clearly violated terms of service by using a bot to farm the nodes.
    2. This person had a third party other than themselves do the work for them which is also a violation of terms of service.
    3. That person literally played FF14 Non-Stop, with only brakes to sleep. Now if you believe this option, I have a bridge to sell you. It's possible, but seeing the other options I would claim highly unlikely.

So as an addendum, not only did I originally have the concerns in regards to the well-being of these players, but now I am actively claiming that these players are by definition violating terms of service by using unfair advantages players generally are not allowed to use hence cheating. My evidence is pretty concrete based on the math and I would love someone to provide some metric of evidence to the contrary!

Updated Above: So let me be very clear, this post is not a troll nor am I being hyperbolic.

After only less than 72 hours since patch 6.2 came out, I have been now seeing countless videos on YouTube and spoken to a small number of people within my own free company who have rushed to get to level 10 in Island Sanctuaries.

This style of gaming reminds me of the days of World of Warcraft when a small number of people no Life the game to the detriment of either their health or personal responsibilities in the real world. And that should be incredibly alarming to a lot of people if you sincerely care about the FF14 community.

I have come to expect a certain bit of vitriol for voicing my concerns from a small number of individuals merely for stating this unhealthy play style that is concerning to me but I couldn't stay silent.

I have been playing 14 since beta, and one of the facets that drew me into 14 from wow comes from the prevention of this form of playstyle. You have even heard people like Yoshi P state in the live letter this same concern.

But let me be very blunt, play how you want...do what you want as the old adage goes I don't pay your sub. But recognize that you are no lifing content in my opinion to the detriment as I mentioned of your own health and to the broader 14 community. And in addition, there will be no new content other than savage raids until patch 6.25. Once you have blown through this, more likely your Crystal rank in PvP...you will be sitting on nothing to do as many complain about because you don't know moderation.

But more than likely people won't care what I wrote here and I'll just be a post that will fade into the archives of these forums!

There'll always be people like that, though.

It's called personal responsibility, what people do is neither your nor my business if they aren't a harm to the public or others and in this case well they are not. There are people destroying their lives all over the world but we aren't going around policing every addict right? Nope of course we don't.

Caring too much can be also unhealthy, try to care about the ones close to you. The ones you can actually affect with your words. Not some strangers on the internet.

Edit: Just to give you also some nice words, it is good that you have empathy and a sense of what is unhealthy. And ofc there is nothing wrong with voicing or well writing your opinion here. Not to mention that i don't even disagree with you, it is unhealthy what some fellas do out there but there is nothing we can do about it besides maybe helping the ones closest to us.

no, but it's annoying to listen to them whine about having nothing to do when they blew through content intended to take weeks of slow progress to finish because they *had* to have level 10 on the island before the end of the first day and now there's "nothing to do".

To be honest, getting there isn't really that intensive of a grind.

Furthermore, you also just need to keep in mind that it had that excitement factor for people to push the content as far as they can go to see what content is unlocked later on within the island without the novelty factor wearing off.

I don't necessarily think that in itself is an unhealthy playstyle, most especially if you are aptly prepared to do so and are more than willing. If you can stomach it then why not? -- The issue only really starts to arise when you feel obligated to do it rather than optionally. This is generally what happens when you introduce time-gate mechanics. Because of those initial hours. e.g., getting Rank 6-8 on the same day of launch was a massive head start for many people.

Why do you even care about how other people play the game?

It needs to be said every so often. The FFs are probably the only MMOs that actually encourage breaks regularly. FFXI still has it on its login screen. There's reference to it peppered in the story. I used to no-life these games and developed health problems, which I eventually overcame after stepping away for a bit. Now, I pay a little more attention to how I'm feeling or how much time I'm spending and I end up enjoying my time more and have more patience for most of what happens out there. Some folks need to stop taking things so seriously and trying so hard to be heard about some of these ideas and things. You're just adding to your own stress.
