Let's Talk About the Awesome Quality of Side Stories in this Game (Minor Spoilers)

Since a troll thread was thrown out there of course bad-mouthing every single thing possible in the game, I figured let's balance it with a more honest assessment

I'm not even going to bother reading the rest. This first sentence tells me EVERYTHING I need to know. You saw a legitimate criticism of the game, had a stroke because someone dared not worship the ground Yoshi P stands on, and decided to make an actual troll/bait post to keep up the illusion that all is well.

I almost forgot : Dark knight job quest lv 30 to 50 are my favorite quests and i wish there were more like that.

How about we talk about the fact that every time legitimate criticism pops up about this game now someone wets their pants and screamcries making a thread that is the exact opposite of the one that got them going.

This is getting ridiculous.

It gets a bit tiring seeing largely the same posters run multiple threads writing essays about how much they dislike this game story over minor grievances...

Not going to lie, for me i would have preferred a Garlemald focused expansion seeing how the story excels when having a slightly political tone, and would have preferred less focus on Zenos since he is a black hole for the political. But still i found enjoyment and satisfaction from both the main story and the side-stories.

A lot of those "legitimate" criticism aren't constructive at all, dismissive with people that disagree, vitriolic sometimes or just obvious troll that use arguments so silly you wish you had a real ignore feature that made anything they do invisible to you.

Legitimate criticism aren't frowned upon, the hrotgar/viera megathread is a perfect exemple of that.

People need to realize that criticism itself can be open to critique. Someone disagreeing with a particular point of criticism doesn't mean they're refusing to accept any negativity.

They might just think that particular criticism is not argued or reasoned well. Or y'know, it just kinda sucks as critique.

I LOVE the side stories in FFXIV. They're varied in style, and I love how they find ways to link some of them together in unexpected ways that makes you smile when you realize the connections and callbacks. My favorite so far has been the side quest in Sharlayan to find the rogue Carbuncle and the realization that it's Tataru's from a loooong time ago that she thought was a failure. Instead it turns out she created one of the strongest carbuncles ever (able to survive without the direct connection to its summoner).

Then you have things like the role quests. Each one has a distinct theme, AND they contribute significantly to world-building to boot. (Anyone raising their eyebrows about how the same people complain the Hildibrand relic idea wouldn't be world-building, but then complain that the role quests ARE world-building?) And by separating them by role instead of each individual class, it's much more accessible to a wider population who doesn't have the time to level each and every class, but can at least get one of each type going. They still experience the full story.

Then there's things like Hildibrand. Pure fun. Silly comic relief that doesn't pretend to be anything but silly comic relief. A breath of fresh air that I think we all need when playing a game.

The effort they put into even the small side-quests at the hubs and give them meaning is impressive.

Troll threads don't tend to be so long they surpass forum text limit and half to be broken into two entire posts because they have so much to say. But you do you.

In Shadowbringers, there is a sidequest in Kholusia. You see an extremely well-dressed woman who is clearly from Eulmore. Basically, she is there because there's a woman nearby who was her servant in Eulmore. However, the lady's husband was attracted to this woman, and so the lady started mistreating her violently. So the woman ran away and left Eulmore.

Now that the story's advanced after Eulmore, and the people are nice now, the lady is filled with remorse, and wishes to apologize. But she is scared to approach the woman, thinking that she has no right to even speak to her after what had happened. So she gives you a letter and asks you to go meet with her.

After reading the letter, the woman agrees to meet with the lady and hear her apology. HOWEVER, THE QUEST ENDS THERE! WE DON'T GET TO SEE THEM RECONCILE! WTF?! COME ON, GAME!!!

ANYWAY, that was quest really stood out to me but I was a little disappointed with how it ended.

The postmoogle quests will always be one of the best examples of storylines and how oddly interconnected things can be sometimes.
If the concept of postmoogle had continued for each expansion to give a bit more of a wrap on storylines, that would be kinda neat.

The big twist in DRK job quest was just so wild, it is unique (at least within ff14), and just not going to be able to be repeated.

How all the little stories happening in the background when your a sprout starting out in ARR just slam into eachother, crash into PotD, and then end with wedding rings like that...

The FOUR LORDS in the back half of stormblood... remember how everybody said, they CAN"T be primals, nobody is being tempered.... we need to come back to this now that the truth is out there.

I've got my spectacles emote, and I don't regret that side story.

So much of the ARR that got trimmed out to make it more streamlined would make lovely side quests. I'd gladly help mom-cat make a new batch of perfume.

I'm pretty sure we're exploring this in Myths with a couple of the events in that storyline. Especially since the latest moogle tomestone event right before Aglaia launch gave tomestones for those trials. I don't think they're primals, though. They often used the moogle tomestone events to hint at things. That event also gave tomestones for Void Ark.

the pld questline was pretty sweet.

You like the Paladin quest line, your sense of taste is already questionable at best.

That being said, Aldis is best boy and I demand to have more of him in-game.
