Most folks are not me. I am constantly coming up with new outfits, combining pieces to see what works. My Eorzean Collection page has 61 glamours on it as of writing. (A few need updating.)
I'm trying to do this with 400 spaces in my glamour dresser and my retainers being full of glams I don't have space for as well as my saddlebag full of more glamours and dyes.
Now with GARO back my stuff is spilling into my main inventory. O_o

I can't afford to rent more retainers and even if I could I wouldn't want to because I remember how much I hated that "subscriber bag" system in ESO.

Agreed, they really need to redo the way glamours work as a whole. The extra 400 is nice, but like others have already mentioned; it's nowhere near enough.

Hopefully this goes somewhere, maybe, highly unlikely, but maybe...? :')

    100%

Just adding more slots occasionally doesn't really solve any issues. It's kicking the can down the road. They need to figure out something better.

Doing this properly is a way to revitalize old content too. That's not even an iffy thing, it's a fact. Every game that has implemented something like this has a significant number of people who want to start collecting the armor and running old content to do so.

    I mostly agree with OP.

PLEASE, Squeenix. There's way too many items in the game to collect and not nearly enough inventory space to facilitate it.

Like, maybe just dedicate a team to work on making their own transmog system by building upon the same unlock check system that exists in the game already, but expand it to all acquired items.
The unlock system can be seen when doing things like relic or anima weapon quests as it knows what replica's it's allowed to offer you for purchase from various vendors.

Change the housing items code a bit as well. Have you go to an Armoire to deposit any gear you get to unlock it.
Then go to a Glam Dresser to make the plate by selecting the gear from the list.
Free up all your retainers. It would also maybe fix the Glam dresser an make it a housing item finally.

Even if it has to be like ESO's newer system (they tried to copy wow) and you spend a prism or something to restore the item from the list to your inventory as well.

Fixing multiple problems at once with Glam system, Storage space, Glam dresser Housing items, The capability to restore the item, the list goes on.

Seems like maybe something they should be putting out before they throw too many more items at you.

I need way more Glam plates than i have and before long will likely have filled my item storage in the dresser as well.

They REALLY need too set up a collectables system, even better if its account wide like WoW's.
There's some items i have on my main you cannot get anymore but have been leveling this 'new' main since she was finally recovered, and i would really like to be able to at least transfer them between my own characters.

I feel like SE likes to do things the hard way and don't really understand many simple, commonsense ways of doing things anymore if recent decisions are anything to go by, getting flashbacks to 1.0 and what caused it to fail so badly.

If i had to redo the glam system, id give everyone a text file that lists the name of every armor appearance, the names of different armor bits that share that appearance, then a 1 or 0 next too it.
If the player collects the item, the 0 becomes a 1 and they can glam it. no stats or info stored, just the appearance name and a 1 or 0. A few bytes of data at most, i bet the current glam system is far more bloated in data size than that.

Definitely agree. I understand that this is a huge engineering undertaking due to how the game is built, but the glamour system is already bursting at the seams, and if SE plans to actively support the game for another decade, it's only going to get worse. The glamour dresser needs a complete rework to accommodate all current and future items, and the sooner they start working on it, the better.

One thing that they should be able to add is a new collection log for attire.
I would make it something like this:

Complete Shisui of the Violet Tides 20 times as a DRG or RPR - Unlocks the Shisui Maiming glamour.
Same is for MNK+SAM, NIN, tanks, healers, ranged, casters.
For alliance raids it would also be 20 times, while 8-man raids need 5 times per turn.

When using the glamour plates, you have the Armoire option and the Attire Log option. The log will function the same way as the Armoire where you can pull the glamour over to the plate. Only difference is that you can't pull gear out from the Attire Log.

Doing this, it would allow you to skip putting dungeon and raid gear in the dresser, saving some slots.
It's also a system that I think should be relative easy to make for FFXIV.

In addition to this, they should also link relic weapon vendors to the same system so you don't have to go to 4 different areas for relic glamour repurchases.

A different option would be to have the entire gear-set equipped and then talk to an NPC to register it (Similar to what we do in the Garo event) and that then completes the Attire Log, this would also make it easy to include most gear-sets in the game.

Or just.. checklist the itemDB for every character..

All it takes is a boolean value (true or false) to register if you have collected the item for it to be displayed.
