I disagree, I honestly think its SE's fault for trying to make this game cater to everyone, its hard to please everyone and it just leads to conflict. So the game wants to be an MMO...but also single player? I don't know, it feels like SE doesn't know really what is wants FF14 to be anymore. It feels like they're just trying to chase after the crowd that want single player games but trying to make it fit into what is an MMo its very jarring...

The reality is that people complained that there's not enough solo content because some don't want to interact with others in an MMO, specifically with how toxic and report happy some can be when it comes to criticism or offering advice. Considering that the FF series has always been a traditionally solo experience, I'm not entirely shocked that they're catering to those who are asking for it. The game isn't trying to be single player, the MSQ has always been the way it is now, it's just offering an option for those who want it in terms of 4 man content. The rest is still required to be played with real people and I highly doubt they're going to change that. If people don't want to step outside the NPC based content, that's their choice.

To be fair, 4 man trusts for all dungeon content makes leveling dps jobs quicker with the lack of a queue...

Always gotta crank that knob to the 1 or the 11 huh?
There is a plethora of Singleplayer games where you can just not need to deal with people, if you play an MMO (MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER ONLINE) game then you are just harming yourself for playing the wrong game.

I am not cranking it up to 11, I am stating sad truths.
If I really want to crank it up to 11, I would be accusing people that want this feature wanting to change this into an MMO style Twitter because the amount of features that platform has to try and block out people from out of your sight and mind are many.

Are there MMOs that have similar features? How would that interact with your perceived world if you just hid them? Would they be just invisible for you but can still (for example) attack enemies in your surrounding? Clear FATEs? Do you want your own instanced sandbox of the game world? Does such a feature have potential to be profitable for the time it needs to be developed? I have no clue about programming but these are the first questions I have in mind when reading the suggestion.

I don't want to get into the argument what implications such a feature would have for an MMO, but I think the effort and outcome for such a feature is already something to think about imo.

Those games do not have FFXIVs world, characters, gameplay, items and aesthetic. I am not harming ANYTHING by wanting not to engage with the rest of the player base once in a while. I'm paying a sub just like everyone else to enjoy the parts of the game I like and how I like.

But it's not a truth that playing an MMO means you HAVE to always engage with the other players. It has the option, but it's not a condition. Several games I play that are MMO's are demonstrative of this. FFXIV is actually one of them for a great amount of its story content.

Good thing you are not, because that's pretty ... how do the kids say... cringe.

What I mean by 11 is this game isn't "participate and interact with everyone at all times". As I stated before there are 1's (like fishing or most MSQ quests) and there are 11's (like Raids). Your response is acting like the entire game is just 11 from login to logout.

I think it's safe to say every MMO has options for scaling things back to different extents. As I recall, EQ2 has an option to hide mounts. It and EQ1 have had options for displaying different character models.

It's not like this is a new feature in XIV. Gpose already has the capability to filter out anything and everything. All people are looking for is a way to filter things out in the more inconsequential areas.

Why hiding people is such an awful thing is beyond me, especially when you have people that just log in to be "decoration". If you really want to ask the question "why bother?" ask those people, not we who are simply looking for a more pleasant active experience.

This whole argument is kind of nuts to me, tbh. Yes, I know I'm playing an MMO, I enjoy its MMO-ness, I enjoy the social element of the game, I enjoy seeing other characters in the world, etc., but not always. Wanting to take a visual break for a bit doesn't mean I don't like MMOs and shouldn't be playing one?

Hell, it's like sunglasses. I love the summer sun, I love the vitamin D (fuck seasonal affective disorder), I love being out in the sun. But sometimes the sun makes my eyes hurt. Sometimes the sun makes it hard for me to see important things outside. Sometimes I wear sunglasses to improve my outdoor summer experience. Do sunglasses remove the sun? No, they just make it more tolerable when it's sunniest. But somehow, wearing sunglasses means actually I don't like the sun and really I should just go inside if I'm not going to enjoy the full, unadulterated experience of the sun. In fact, let's just stare directly at it! But here's the best part about sunglasses! You can put them on and take them off at will, and it doesn't impact literally anyone else.

Not to mention that the functionality already exists (in gpose), so I don't really buy the "but muh dev resources" argument.

Let people play the game they want to play. It doesn't impact anyone else, and it would aid player retention, which just gives SE more money to make this MMO that we all love (even if we sometimes want to feel alone in it).

I think if we get people even angrier, we could get this thread to 20 pages! We already have a few personally invested schizos arguing back and forth, me included, so lets make sure this keeps on going, rehashing the same things over and over, and making the same awful analogies that really don't work. If there's one thing I have picked up on about FFXIV players, it's that for some reason they think the game should specifically cater to them and what they want (I assume because the devs have sold them this lie, which is just remarkably stupid, no game will ever cater perfectly to you) and get REALLY mad when people suggest that no, actually, the game can't and shouldn't do so.

If you’re not interested in seeing other human players, then with all due respect, why are you playing an MMO rather than any other number of role-playing games?

Also, if everyone else becomes invisible to you, then would the reverse also apply? Otherwise, that might lead to a sense of paranoia with many people wondering if they’re actually being seen.

Ackshually. Unless said player buys something from the Mogstation its not helping ffxiv at all.
