I felt the same about rogue. I imagine that if they did as I suggested with the base classes, rogue could have a greater emphasis on assassin techniques like poisons and perhaps more weapon skills. Like, imagine rogues as duelist tanks. Rather than making some crazy new class using whips or something, let us use daggers in a different way. Classes would keep their identity while making them fun and new.

Anyways, I know they don't want any split jobs but I really wish there was another job that evolved from rogue. Ninja is nice but at the same time it feels like it could've been something else completely. Some sort of other spy/stealth class.
Super disappointed with Y.P's stance on this tbh, considering there's been a lot of feedback from giving BLU a normal skill set option,to popular choices like Time Mage or BST, to controversial choices like Necro to rather fringe choices like Green Mage.

They all include more or less established concepts within the FF universe that people clearly want. The statement seems a bit tonedeaf. Like Sage and Chemist, but I digress.

Also, PLD, DRK,NIN ,GNB, SAM, RDM are all some form of Blade users. IDK why Bow always has this bias in games, despite being amongst the most popular classes.

Off the top of my hat:

    Hunter(FFTA): outdoor-y clothing, Survival, Traps
Sniper(FFTA): oriental clothing, Stealth, Poison, Precision
Hunter(Ragnarok Online): see above, Falcon minion
Stalker(Ragnarok Online): 'strip targets to debuff', Copycat, Paints, Taunts, Stealth
Acrobat(Dragon Nest): Jumping Skills, Agile, Melee combos
    Dragonhunter (GW2): Holy, Traps, Support
    Druid(GW2): Nature spell focused, Support
Beastmaster(WoW): 2 Pets, heavily pet focused (pretty much just DOTS anyway)
Samurai(or X class for that matter): rework animations, give 5% RNG tax, done

The concepts we are left with are Music, flashy, rainbowy, Magical Arrows and thus Bard is just not appealing to me.

There problem comes from the games design.

If op is referring to the article I believe they are then I recall reading the same one and it was kinda flawed.

The article made suggestions about new job concepts like an evasion tank that plays differently to other tanks bit the systems in xiv would never allow it to function in any meaningful way.. dodging raid mechanics or tank busters for example would totally break encounters.. and outside of that evasion would basically be as useless fluff. Basically like parry..

The streamlining and homogenization of literally everything has essentially shoe horned them into a corner.and gives them no real room to be creative or create unique jobs. Hence why every tank plays the same. Every healer player the same... basically every dps plays the same..... any new jobs are ultimately going to be more of the same again..

The craziest part is that Geomancer and Chemist would be the best ones to implement, as we've seen areas that have variations on the jobs. Geomancer may be a healer in Hingashi, but who is to say that Geomancer in Meracydia or the New World don't work differently?

Back in ARR one of the suggestions I had was something you see in other MMO's that had base jobs/classes that later advanced to something else which was to have a branching role path at 30 like Arcanist did with SCH and SMN for the remaining jobs as it would have provided more jobs and allowed some to appear that iconically used a weapon already in use by another job and provided an option for other DPS that didn't want to wait on DPS queue to play a different role without having to level it from scratch.

Given that XIV's job design has rarely been a strict 1-to-1 implementation of past jobs--instead, opting for, fancy that, NEW and UNIQUE takes on classic jobs--many job concepts that people believe to be "outstanding" have actually been rolled into existing XIV jobs for anyone who has been paying attention.

I think, of all of these, we may see a Corsair/Chemist hybrid Cannoneer type. And maybe a Trainer Limited job if they give up on fleshing out the Companion system. Otherwise, these are all quite accounted for and would only detract from the existing job fantasies if implemented.

Seeing how they've been abandoning the pet AI more and more I wouldn't expect Beastmaster to be anything but limited if it ever arrived. I do wonder though how much people's issue with the classes is with the name of the class vs the weapon, abilities, or role. I've seen a lot of people ask for the ability to swap Greatsword, Greataxe, Sword/Axe and shield around on the tanks for a while. Also what is a mystic knight anyway? It just sounds like another version of spell blade which we have already in a few different flavors.

    IKR, thats what im saying.
Just make bard support music and buff focused and put it into the healer role. Create a "Ranger" or "Hunter" class and put all of bards current abilities into them and reskin the musical animations to something like a hawk or tiger, and BOOM, its literally the Hunter/Ranger , and it would make more sense both in identity and gameplay.
but instead they gave the Bard name a Ranger's identity and ruined both -- completely eliminating all options of having a musical healer, or an actual archer.

See this seems weird in context of the current game. They could have just broke sch off and made it job stone only like the new ones. Once they had a system in place that didn't require a starting class, it made the most sense. It would have been making a semi new job with probably a huge chunk of the work done.
