Regardless of whether or not the OP made an error, it should be clear to anyone who has ever worked in software development that SE made an equal or greater one. You (should) learn very early on how to validate input and perform error checking as users CAN AND WILL make mistakes (and no, instructions do not count as error checking). Software lacking this is bad software written by bad developers. There is absolutely no reason why a user would (not in error) select his/her own world as a transfer destination, so this situation should have been checked for. Checking to see if you clicked the radio button representing your current world isn't even that much code.
Obviously developers are people too and we make mistakes like everyone else. What bothers me about this is SE's refusal to do anything about it. For the people being unnecessarily hostile to the OP, remember that something like this could easily happen to you with how SE runs things.
A case of human error or not, SE's blatant disregard for helping those who made a mistake is reminiscent of SE's poor customer support from it's XI days.
I can tell SE right now that part of why WoW felt superior to XI was that Blizzards GMs actually felt like they did their job, busted their ass to help you with problems and generally seemed to ban RMTs as well as get people their gear back when they were hacked by said RMTs.
SE's GM's hardly did any of that in XI; it was just a big bag of "We will investigate" and nothing ever happened. I want to give SE the benefit of the doubt that they can improve on this sort of poor customer support, and this is definitely a case where they should start showing the change.
If I somehow got put on a different server than my friends and linkshell, I'd QUIT your game, SE. I can only imagine most other people would feel the same way or take the same action... please understand that. And remember that players such as that are usually much louder to people not playing your game than the people who are enjoying your game. The last thing 14 needs is the blight of this sort of botched merger on its hands to stain 2.0 even further.
so, how long have your character been inactive?
Why are these threads still being made? either quit the game or stfu about the server transfer. If you don't like what they're doing then cancel the account. Otherwise stfu and stop complaining about it, go make a blog if you're so angry.
I don't want to pay taxes, so WHY are you forcing me to?
What the hell has the last post have anything to do with this thread?
Everyone has bullsh*t analogies Even you and I.. that's what the forums are all about anyways :P.
PS. I think he was joking around.. because this thread is getting out of hand.. "which it is"
A bit off-topic:
Remember way back in the day when SE released a patch for FFXI (I believe it was during ToAU), and many people who tried to install it received a 'your game is corrupt, please reinstall' error? Then, when you went to uninstall and reinstall, it was not clear that you MUST uninstall the expansions first... So, many people uninstalled their MAIN game first. When you did this, it gave you the normal 'caution: some programs may not work properly when this is uninstalled' warning. Then, it proceeded to wipe files necessary to your OS. Hundreds of people wiped their HDD's as a result. The very next day, they released a patch that fixed this problem; no longer would uninstalling your main game first destroy your OS.
Moral of the story: SE makes some GREAT games, but they're not the best at making other types of software. More than likely, they hired some outside company to make the online 'survey-style' application process, and that company did not necessarily understand the mechanics of what they were doing. Or, SE did it from within and they really are that bad at error-checking.
