The level of play is massively fluctuating at that rank and usually the team that gets more of them is severly handicapped.

Crystal should definitely be its own pool. I mean its literally got a completely separate rating system from all the other tiers, but I think the devs are too worried about crystal queues being too long which is fair I suppose. But ya, it is frustrating to get a team of diamond 4 and 5's and being the only crystal player on the team and the opposing team is entirely crystal minus maybe one high diamond player.

imo it should be bronze3-1 tier on its own, silver3-1 tier on its own, plat4-1 tier on its own, and diamond5-1 tier on its own...idk why SE wont do it like that, question them...

not a big enough player pool.
Bruh, I'm Platinum 1 and I just got matched with Crystal players.
When you are in a game for rank up to the next rank (Plat to Diamond) the system automatically assumes you are that next rank (diamond) and slots you in accordingly. I saw this the entire climb....as bronze 1 and going for Silver, you play against gold players, as gold going for plat you play against diamond players.
The entire point is sort of a "weed out" system to make sure you can compete on the next level before they promote you there.
I'll be 100% honest, I was in a game the other night as a crystal, and I had 2 Plat 1 players on the other team. System kinda boned them IMHO, means they were both trying for diamond promotion. I may have did a little more chasing that game then I usually would (Not against those players) because I felt bad the system kinda gave them a short end of the stick.
Anyway about it, the difference between Diamond and Crystal is not huge, and the system does try to match the same amount of diamond players on each team. You generally see 3 crystal, and 2 diamond on each side, to attempt to even it out.
The only one I agree with not overlapping TBH is crystal, but without allowing the overlap, diamond players would have an even easier time climbing to crystal, which I also do not agree with as the climb is already to easy in my opinion. There is nothing wrong with the way it overlaps.

"When registering for a match in Crystalline Conflict, players in the Crystal tier can now be matched with players who are Diamond 3 (with 1 Rising Star) or higher." In Patch notes, bless the PvP team. Also nice buffs to some Jobs.

That's a pretty good change. Although there are a lot of goofs sitting at 0 rating in Crystal, at least we won't also get paired with Diamond hardstucks.
