Basically it required the whole server to work together to unlock new changes in the environment, rebuild shops and push back enemies so that players could reclaim the area.

FFXI campaign. Once beastmen claimed most of your Outposts they raided the nations. FFXI conquest, it influenced what ingridents, weapons/armor/etc NPCs sold and where and for what price.
