Am I really the only one who got more of "Please temper your expectations" vibe from Yoshi P's responce than "Don't get excited"? Such response sounds rather mature and responsible considering people were already believing it to be cure-all for all housing issues. Do someone really need to remind some if you what happens when devs overhype their own game/features? Bringing out Cyberpunk that to this day doesn't even get close to things CDP Red promised? No Man Sky that took months of free updates to reach the promised level? Overblown expectations will have negative impact on the way the product is received. Even more so when there's little to nothing to base those expectations off because the "fans" will find a way to convince themselves and others that they were actually promised the things that weren't delivered.

they didn't say "don't get excited" they said "temper your expectations" because people were freaking out claiming it was instanced housing which it isn't. there's a huge difference between the two.

As others have stated, they never said don't get excited. They just asked players to temper their expectation in response to everyone claiming it to be Animal Crossing in FF14. In fact, they addressed that very connection by stating for those expecting it to be that please temper your expectations and that expecting what is an entire game to be added as side content is a bit over the top. Which, tbh, I fully agree.

Or maybe first release a barebones "beta" version of it (which is likely what they'll do), see if users like it, and then take feedback in consideration.
Spending months gathering feedback on a content that people might not even interact with is not a great idea in iterative development IMO...

I mean, sure, but also “hey guys, surprise! we spent a lot of free time making this thing hardly anyone will play because we thought it’d be cool” like Mahjong.

I feel it’s better to try and get general feedback on what people want to do, even if they release a few different barebones systems and just see what people are using in game for a next iteration (kinda like they did with PotD)

They have probably had more cash shop info then Islands news. Anyone expecting anything is probably going to be disappointed. I would be shocked if it much greater then the Pixie instance we get. When SE is this quiet it isn't good news. Yoshida is a salesman and he isn't trying to sell you this, red flag. With longer patch cycles this could/probably be a 2023 content.

It is a bit worrying that they wouldn't stop talking about that island thing since 5.4 and how cool it's going to be and then they do a 180 and go "Please temper your expectations". I'm sorry Yoshida, i'm already tempered, if i'm any more tempered then I would blindly worship SE as if they were a primal. :^)

I am setting the bar really low for Island Sanctuary and especially for criterion dungeons. The only bar I have set high for is the relic questline.

I personally, just want a very large garden plot(s) - my Unicorn mount have a place to hang out & to add NPCs like the Scions to the sanctuary(Bc it would only be Thancred I put there- gotta keep daddy safe) - I'd also like to see a system that allows us to implement seasons/ weather over the island without it changing unless the player chooses so- ex: if I want it autumn/sunset farm theme for example!
