I barely notice mentors in my parties. I never ever see anyone trashing them in dungeons, or the opposite. And Faerie NN is pretty chill.

People are mentors only for the crown icon next to their name. Remove that, and you'll have any other average player. Every time I had a mentor in my group as a sprout, they just spewed nonsense and were extremely passive aggressive, all because they're aiming for the mount at 2k roulettes.

as I mentioned, it happens in outside third party chat tools such as discord
same happens when it's a 7/8 static and they fill the last person with party finder, the amount of toxicity towards that one person in voice chat is astounding

There's a lot of really bad mentors out there who teach things that are wrong, leave duties that they don't like because they just want the mount, yell at sprouts, don't know how to play various duties, etc.
It comes from Mentor being extremely easy to get, the commends just come from 6-12 months of playing normally and all of the fights can be unsync cleared in PF for easy kills.
So, there's a lot of mentors who did it for the prestige, the ego boost, and the status symbol who really have no idea how to help other players, have no intention of helping other players, or don't know what they're trying to teach.

That's why people don't respect them, it flat out doesn't mean anything. It's just an RP crown and a way to keep talking in NN like it's a general chat.

I'm sorry, what? 6-12 months? I got the necessary commends in just 1,5 months because I played healer.

Mentors are supposed to try n smooth out the rough content new players attempt doing when they que for EX/Savage content.

Instead of trying to explain that this is generally cleared in the party finder groups or giving it a shot anyway after trying to explain the mechanics mentors either leave or the people who qued are toxic towards the person trying to say "hey this fights mechanics are super complex so if u guys wanna try here's how it works."

In reality it's a flaw on both sides of the spectrum and really the requirements are insanely low. Idk how it works on JP data centers but I imagine it's slightly better than English ones.

As someone who has done synced EX fights both in DF and in the PF, synced PF parties do not generally fill. Saying to take it to PF or to get a static is a polite way of a mentor telling you to F off for ruining their mentor roulette streak.

It's a shame that such a generalistic, personal attack is upvoted / liked but here we are.

Veteran healers don't care if we need to heal, but right now we don't. We want interesting things to do during the downtime other than a 30s dot and a single filler spell that hasn't changed from lvl 4 to lvl 90.
Dead DPS do no DPS. Raised DPS do 25/50% lower DPS. Do the mechanics and don't stand in bad stuff.
Other games expect basic competence, FFXIV is pleasantly surprised by it. Other games have toxic elitism. FFXIV has toxic casualism.[/LIST]

It's just amplified with mentors because people remember bad encounters (like the example in Ranaku's post) from what people see as role models, and that in turn adds a stigma to being a mentor and so it goes.
This is essentially what it boils down to. It's not the status (though the crown has never helped in NA/EU), and not even the intent of earnest mentors - rather, it's the assumption that mentors should be perfect at everything and simply aren't, and at the root of that assumption is that in order to get the crown, you have to clear every current extreme, and the fact that Mentor Roulette routinely puts you into EX fights. And it's simply unnecessary. The point of the Mentor system should be nothing more than to to help people who are new to the game and simply don't understand where to find something, or how their class/job is played, how basic mechanics/systems work. Mentors shouldn't need to be - nor should they be assumed to be - fonts of knowledge over every single fight and every single aspect of the game. If you're going up against an extreme trial (and - somehow - you're not in a PF or static) it should be assumed that you already know everything you need to know about the basics, and therefore you shouldn't need mentor guidance.

Siren NN is mostly a social channel that shows new players that people actually talk in this game instead of ignoring each other. Occasionally we drop what we're talking about to answer questions and share hunt locations with the sprouts - at least in the morning. NN after dark is a different beast I have little experience with.

But I am getting sick of being painted with a broad brush by some of you people who are butt-hurt that some randoms on the internet gave them a bad day.

I don't give a rip about some mount
I don't even wear my crown.

So kindly take your attitude about the few bad ones we have and shove it.
