Miqo'te ears are made up of two parts, the head model has the "naked" inside of the ear, and the furry bit of Miqo'te ears is attached to the hairstyle itself. Their ears don't really go through but are part of the hairstyle. Since they only have one ear type it's able to work like that.



The male Viera version of the hairstyle is different again, Viera ears are not attached to their heads or hair but are completely separate and instead the hair has 2 cut-outs in it where the ears slot in to later.

Hrothgar ears are part of the head model itself and I guess that's where the problem comes in. They can't do it the Miqo'te way because Hrothgar have 4 different ear shapes, and they can't do it the Viera way because the ears aren't separated from the head model.

Why the hair can't be layered over the Hrothgar head model with the ears clipping through the hairstyle is anyone's guess though, if I had to guess then maybe they do hairstyles the same way they do equipment and it replaces parts of the body rather than layers it on top. So once the hair is on, the top half of the head (including the ears, in this case) disappears and there's no ears left to allow to clip through.

With how long it's been you'd think they would have found a better solution than this though.
